Borsalino Expands into Luxury Leather Goods with Gamat Partnership

Following the strategic relaunch of its fragrance and eyewear lines slated for early 2025, the esteemed Italian milliner Borsalino is set to significantly broaden its product portfolio with an ambitious expansion into high-end leather goods. This pivotal move will see the brand develop an extensive collection of bags and accessories through a new partnership with Gamat, a renowned Ticino-based manufacturer. General Manager Mauro Baglietto underscored the significance of this venture, stating, “With this new leather goods licence, Borsalino is writing a new chapter in its history.”

While Borsalino, acquired in 2018 by the investment fund Haeres Equita led by Philippe Camperio, has previously offered small leather goods under its own name, this collaboration marks its inaugural foray into a fully fledged, comprehensive line of products. The five-year licence agreement with Gamat is all-encompassing, covering the design, production, and global distribution of this anticipated new collection of bags and accessories, solidifying Borsalino's commitment to this new category.

Gamat, the chosen partner, brings substantial expertise to the collaboration. Founded in 1998 by Alessandro Mazzucchelli in Chiasso, Switzerland, the company boasts an impressive annual production of over 700,000 leather items, including bags and accessories, for approximately 50 clients worldwide. Its prestigious client roster includes high-profile brands such as Giorgio Armani, Dsquared2, and Off-White. Gamat is distinguished by its integrated management approach across Europe and Asia, overseeing every stage of a project from raw material selection and prototyping to production and stringent quality control, ensuring exceptional standards.

The debut collection, designed for Autumn/Winter 2026–2027, promises to be a highlight of the fashion calendar, with the first models slated for an exclusive unveiling at the forthcoming Milan Fashion Week. The subsequent sales campaign is scheduled to commence in November, paving the way for the products to officially reach the market in September 2026. This carefully orchestrated launch ensures maximum anticipation and strategic market entry.

The new leather goods line will be made accessible through a comprehensive distribution network. Customers will be able to acquire the pieces via Borsalino's 17 dedicated boutiques, a curated selection of multi-brand stores, major international department stores, and the brand’s e-commerce platform. Co-designed with Gamat, the collection is envisioned to "enrich customers’ wardrobes with pieces to accompany them on their travels or in everyday life, without compromising on style and functionality," as stated by the house. Furthermore, Borsalino affirms that each piece will uphold the same unparalleled quality synonymous with its iconic felt hats, extending its heritage of craftsmanship into a new domain.
