The entertainment industry faced a wave of sorrow in 2026 with the passing of several iconic figures.

The year began with the heartbreaking announcement that stage and social media personality Bret Hanna-Shuford passed away at the age of 46 after a diagnosis of T-Cell Lymphoma. His spouse, Stephen Hanna-Shuford, announced on January 3 that the Beauty and the Beast performer “quietly departed this life surrounded by affection and his loved ones.”

January 8, 2026, brought news of the death of PBS television chef Elle Simone Scott — a trailblazer as the initial Black woman to feature on the cooking program America’s Test Kitchen — who died at age 49 after a prolonged struggle with ovarian cancer.

On January 10, reports surfaced that T.K. Carter, a seasoned actor recognized for his roles in The Thing and Punky Brewster, was discovered deceased at age 69 in Duarte, California. Later that same day, the death of Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir was confirmed at age 78, after he lost his battle with “respiratory complications” following a cancer diagnosis in July 2025. Just hours after that, Colombian vocalist Yeison Jiménez died in an airplane accident at age 34.

January 11 saw the passing of celebrated composer Guy Moon, most recognized for his contributions to Nickelodeon staples like The Fairly OddParents, who succumbed to “severe injuries” following a car collision in Los Angeles. He was 63.
