Aaron Phypers Released on $200,000 Bail Following Abuse Allegations and Denise Richards' Restraining Order Filing

Following his apprehension for alleged spousal abuse, Aaron Phypers, who is currently separated from Denise Richards, has been granted release on bail, a fact confirmed by Us Weekly.

Court documents reviewed by Us indicate that Phypers, aged 53, secured his freedom from law enforcement on Friday, October 17, by furnishing a $200,000 bond. The initial scoop came from TMZ, which also shared an image of Phypers with his bail bondsman shortly after his liberation.

Hours before, Us had verified that Phypers had been taken into custody on charges of domestic violence at a Los Angeles courthouse. This occurred after he provided testimony in a proceeding concerning Richards’ petition for a temporary restraining order (TRO) against him.

“He was apprehended just outside the courthouse and escorted down an adjacent escalator. He did not return to the corridor,” an observer relayed to Us. “Denise is present, appearing composed, and conversing with her legal team.”

In contrast, a different source informed Us that both Phypers and his legal counsel appeared “bewildered” by the arrest and “didn’t seem to grasp that his arrest was imminent.”

Richards, aged 54, and Phypers tied the knot in September 2018. After six years of marriage, he initiated divorce proceedings in July, preceding Richards' pursuit of a TRO against Phypers, in which she claimed her estranged partner had been abusive throughout their union.

“Aaron would often physically choke me with force, forcefully grip my head with both hands, tightly constrict my arms, violently strike my face and head,” Richards asserted in her filing. “[He would] vigorously shove my head against the bathroom towel rack, issue death threats, pin me down with his knee on my back to such an extent that I would beg him to release me to prevent my death, and unlawfully access my laptop and phone to extract all my text messages.”

Phypers, conversely, strongly refuted these allegations.

“Untrue. Fabricated. I possess concrete proof,” Phypers communicated to Us in a statement released in July, dismissing the claims. “I wish to respond to recent reports and conjectures circulating about my relationship with my spouse, Denise Richards. Let me state without reservation: I have never subjected Denise — or anyone — to physical or emotional abuse.”

He further elaborated, “These charges are entirely baseless and profoundly distressing. Denise and I, similar to numerous couples, have encountered our difficulties, but any insinuation of abuse is fundamentally incorrect. I have consistently endeavored to approach our marital bond with affection, forbearance, and deference. I request discretion as we handle private affairs, and I trust that the public and press will abstain from disseminating damaging and unfounded assertions.”

Both Richards and Phypers were present in court on Friday, each providing testimony before a judicial officer. Given Phypers’ detention, the court session and the request for the TRO have been postponed until November 7.

Richards was formerly wed to actor Charlie Sheen, their marriage lasting from 2002 to 2006, and they are parents to daughters Sami and Lola. The star of Denise Richards and Her Wild Things is also the mother to Eloise, a daughter she adopted in 2011.
