Adam Sandler Says His Marriage to Jackie Is "Fate"

Adam Sandler Says His Marriage to Jackie Is

Adam Sandler believes he and his wife, Jackie Sandler, were destined to be together.

While Adam, 59, attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s gala on Saturday, January 3, he discussed what his life might have been like if he had taken a job with his father as an electrical engineer – instead of pursuing an acting career. (At the event, Adam accepted the Chairman’s Award in recognition of his work in Jay Kelly.)

“I occasionally consider it, [wondering] if I hadn’t succeeded that year and had instead gone to work for my dad, what my life would look like right now,” Adam said in his speech, according to People. “To begin with, I suspect I’d still be married to my wife, Jackie. That feels like fate. Nothing could change that.”

“But we certainly [would] have a different home. Probably, something with around 10 fewer bathrooms and [fewer] statues of me,” he joked.

Adam and Jackie first met on the set of 1999’s Big Daddy, and began dating shortly after. He proposed in 2002.

“I played basketball that afternoon, trying to calm my nerves, and then I was driving. I was rehearsing what I wanted to say and trying to, you know, make sure I got everything right so she would remember it fondly, and I did pretty well,” he said during a June 2002 appearance on Good Morning America at the time. “She called her grandmother immediately afterward and her mother, and they both said, ‘Yes, I could hear the applause over the phone.’”

Adam and Jackie exchanged vows in 2003. The couple later welcomed daughters Sadie and Sunny in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

More than two decades after tying the knot with Jackie, Adam reflected on the couple’s strong connection.

Adam Sandler Serenades Family After Saying Things That Aren't 'True' About Them

“We’re very close. We like to converse, like to laugh, like to have fun, and like to discuss things and care for our children,” Adam told People in November 2025. “I’m just more grateful than I’ve ever been.”

He continued, “I’m delighted I got to experience this life, delighted [about] all the people who’ve been with me throughout all of this, and helped me, and [it’s] just been a remarkable time. My entire family has always been wonderful to me. My wife and I talk about things, and what to do, and what to do next, and it’s just been a truly wonderful life.”

Later that year, Adam admitted that he frequently makes “so many statements” about his wife and kids that “aren’t factual” – and knows how to compensate for it.

“I fabricate stories and make them silly, so at the conclusion of the performance, I like to remind the audience that none of it is real and I love my wife,” Adam explained in Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman and Adam Sandler in December 2025. “I imagine while I’m saying [things about her] during [the show] she thinks, ‘Let’s move on.’”

Adam then went on to serenade his wife during a standup routine at the end of the special.

“Now we don’t require a large house, we don’t require any money, all we need is you and me and Sadie and Sunny,” he sang. “I have everything I need growing old with you.”
