After Nearly Two Decades, Steve Howey and Sarah Shahi Announce Split

Steve Howey and Sarah Shahi were a couple for nearly two decades before announcing their split.

The pair initially met in 2003 when Shahi appeared in an episode of Reba, which premiered the following year. Howey, meanwhile, played Van on the WB sitcom, which ran from 2001 to 2007. Shahi began a romantic connection with Howey, and soon after, her career began to flourish — partly thanks to his father, who worked as an acting instructor.

In February 2009, the couple exchanged vows in Las Vegas. Five months later, they welcomed their son, William, into the world. The pair grew their family again in March 2015 with the arrival of their twins, Violet and Knox.

Although the duo appeared to have everything — Shahi starred in The L Word and later Fairly Legal and Howey achieved success on Shameless — their marriage took a secondary role as their family and careers progressed.

Us Weekly was the first to report in June 2020 that Shahi had initiated divorce proceedings one month earlier, following the couple’s separation in the spring of that year.

“Following considerable reflection and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage,” the former partners stated in a joint statement to Us at the time. “We are incredibly thankful for the last 10 years together and proud of the children we’ve raised. As we move into this new chapter of our lives, our focus will remain on raising our children with immense love, shared respect, and friendship. And while our relationship is evolving, we are dedicated to continuing our lives as a devoted family.”
