Ali Larter Shares Secrets to a Happy 16-Year Marriage with Hayes MacArthur

Ali Larter forms half of Landman’s complicated couple at the heart of the series, yet in her personal life, she’s enjoyed a happy marriage with her husband, Hayes MacArthur, for 16 years.

“Appreciate each day,” Larter, 49, recently shared with People regarding the key to her enduring marriage with her partner. “Strive to be genuinely kind.”

Larter, 49, also expressed admiration for “the way that he supports our family,” referencing MacArthur’s commitment to raising their two children, Theodore, 15, and Vivienne, 10. (The couple exchanged vows at MacArthur’s family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, in August 2009.)

The Heroes actress and MacArthur, 48, previously discussed how they strengthened their family bond during the COVID-19 pandemic when they chose to relocate away from Los Angeles.

“The entertainment world was completely paused and our children were spending too much time on screens with online schooling,” MacArthur told Rue Magazine in September 2024. “So, after a year, we simply packed up the car and left.”

Larter added, “We thought it was a chance to embark on an adventure as a family. And we just began driving north.”

While traveling, Larter and MacArthur developed a fondness for Sun Valley, Idaho, a resort destination known for its mountain ranges, scenic views, and ski lodges. They felt it was the ideal location to establish roots and constructed the house of their dreams, a 4,400-square-foot retreat that “blends seamlessly with the natural landscape of Sun Valley but doesn’t have that typical ‘rustic’ feel.”

“We were captivated by the beauty of the mountains and their quiet majesty,” Larter shared. “Neither of us had ever resided in a small town before. People look out for one another. There’s a genuine sense of community here, and we’re so pleased to be a part of it.”

Larter, of course, has needed to travel to and from Texas to film Taylor Sheridan’s Landman. “Actors are naturally wanderers, and travel is an inherent part of our profession,” she said. But it’s an opportunity that she’s deeply appreciative of. (Texas is also where Larter met MacArthur 20 years ago on the set of a comedy film.)

“I get to collaborate, I believe, with one of the finest actors currently working in our industry, and he inspires the best in me,” she told People in November regarding her work in the drama alongside Billy Bob Thornton. “When we’re working together, there’s never a moment that feels false, and that is remarkable. I cherish him immensely.”

And when she isn’t flying to the Lone Star State, she’s savoring time with MacArthur and their kids on their idyllic two-acre property. Ahead of the season 2 premiere, Larter revealed she was able to spend a relaxing six weeks in Idaho with her loved ones.

“I’m preparing dinners and allowing myself to sleep in, or attending yoga classes or taking long walks with the dogs,” she told the outlet. “And I’m at every soccer match and every soccer practice, and that truly revitalizes me.”

New episodes of Landman season 2 stream on Paramount+ every Sunday.
