Amy Poehler and a First-Class Passenger Clash Over Ana Gasteyer's Daughter
Amy Poehler once engaged in a heated discussion with a first-class airline passenger concerning Ana Gasteyer’s now-23-year-old daughter.
“I recall being on a flight with you [and] you had a disagreement with a man,” Gasteyer, 58, reminisced on a recent segment of Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast. “Baby Frances was traveling with us. The gentleman became upset that you were using strong language in front of the baby.”
Mean Girls performers Poehler, 54, and Gasteyer were flying in first class with Gasteyer’s daughter when a fellow traveler was not pleased to hear the Parks and Recreation star loudly utter some colorful phrases.
“It’s a lengthy story, but what transpired was a man — a first-class passenger, as we were also in first class — said, ‘Excuse me, I’m attempting to [rest]. You’re being too loud,” Poehler recounted. “My Boston accent really came out, let’s just say that.”

Gasteyer, meanwhile, considered the argument “the most entertaining thing [she had] ever witnessed.”
Gasteyer starred in 2004’s Mean Girls with fellow Saturday Night Live alum Poehler less than a year after welcoming Frances into the world. Gasteyer portrayed Cady’s (Lindsay Lohan) mother, while Poehler appeared as Regina’s (Rachel McAdams) mom. Mean Girls was penned by SNL veteran Tina Fey.
“I remember spending time with you at that hotel one night and enjoying drinks,” Gasteyer recalled on the “Good Hang” episode. “I have a memory of [Tina] sitting at the table on 17 saying, ‘I believe I’m going to pursue the rights to this book.’ It’s remarkable.”
Gasteyer shares Frances and son Ulysses with her husband, Charlie McKittrick. After raising their children in Los Angeles, the married couple relocated to New York City in 2023.
“I’ve been working in L.A. for 25 years and my husband was residing here when we first met, so it wasn’t entirely unfamiliar,” the comedic actress told Scary Mommy in a July 2023 profile of their move. “Culturally, they’re quite different environments. Night and day — and it’s been a significant adjustment. It was challenging for my teenager. A completely different experience in every way.”

She continued, “New York City residents, as everyone knows, have a reputation for being very worldly and so forth, but much of it is simply practical. [Children] have a great deal of independence early on because they aren’t reliant on car transportation. They’re able to go to the market for you when they’re in sixth grade because the market is just a short distance away. Everything happens in such a concentrated manner. In Brooklyn, in our neighborhood, he’ll go play a casual basketball game, he can motivate himself differently than you can in L.A. It’s simply not the same. You have to drive them everywhere.”
Frances had already enrolled in college at the time, attending Northwestern University like her mother.
“We really value higher education in our family. I strongly desired them to attend college and receive an education,” Gasteyer recalled to the outlet. “So, [I’m] striving to encourage them to focus on their schoolwork and making sound moral choices.”
