Amy Redford Slams AI Amidst Family's Plans for Robert Redford Memorial

Amy Redford, daughter of the late Robert Redford, spoke out about the family's intentions for a future memorial service and strongly criticized artificial intelligence-generated content related to her father's passing.

"I extend my gratitude for the immense affection and solidarity shown through emails, messages, direct messages, traditional mail, and even gifts left at my home since my father's death," 55-year-old Amy stated in an Instagram post on Wednesday, November 19. "It's evident he profoundly impacted countless individuals, and my family is deeply moved by the multitude of anecdotes and heartfelt messages received worldwide."

Amy explained that despite her ongoing learning curve with social media, she felt compelled to comment on the dissemination of inaccurate details regarding her father's funeral arrangements through AI.

"Numerous AI-created renditions of memorial services, eulogies, and purported family statements are entirely fictitious," she added. "Images of my father, who cannot obviously consent, and portrayals of my relatives that are unflattering are particularly distressing during this sorrowful period. We are collectively mourning, and we stand united in our support for each other."

Amy clarified that no "public funeral" has taken place for her father, and the family is "currently organizing arrangements for a commemorative event later on."

"Each family deserves the freedom to grieve, honor their departed loved one, and commemorate them in a manner consistent with their unique beliefs and family traditions," she further stated.

While Amy conceded that "AI is here to stay," she expressed optimism for its use in a "clear and open" fashion.

"Many aspects of it were developed with noble intentions. I merely pose the question, consider if this were happening to you? Let that inform your actions," she urged. "Allow genuine human expression to thrive, motivate, and serve as the unifying bond we all desire."

Robert passed away in September. His representative, Cindi Berger, informed the New York Times that the Academy Award recipient died peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Utah. The specific reason for his passing remains undisclosed.

The esteemed actor is survived by his daughters Amy and Shauna, born from his marriage to former wife Lola Van Wagenen, his current wife Sibylle Szaggars, and his seven grandchildren. Robert was also a father to his son James, who succumbed to cancer in October 2020 at 58, and son Scott, who passed away from SIDS in 1959 at two months old.

"The news of Bob's passing deeply affected me this morning. I find myself unable to cease weeping," the acclaimed actress communicated in a September statement to Us Weekly. "He held significant importance in my life and was an exceptional individual in every aspect. He symbolized an ideal America that we must relentlessly strive to preserve."
