Amy Schumer Files for Divorce from Chris Fischer After Seven Years

Amy Schumer has formally initiated divorce proceedings from her husband, Chris Fischer, Us Weekly can confirm.

The actress, 44, submitted her paperwork on Tuesday, January 6, with the New York County Supreme Court, according to documents obtained by Us.

The case is categorized as “matrimonial — uncontested,” per the filing, which comes less than a month after Schumer publicly acknowledged that the pair had separated.

“Unfortunately, Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after seven years,” Schumer announced via Instagram on December 12, 2025. “We deeply care for each other and will continue to prioritize raising our son. We would appreciate it if people respected our privacy during this time.”

At the time, Schumer shared a photograph of her and her former spouse, 45, smiling while riding the New York City subway together.

Schumer reassured her followers that she did not separate from Fischer because she “lost some weight” following her 50-pound weight loss or because Fischer is a “talented James Beard “award winning chef who remains desirable. It’s amicable and full of love and respect! Family forever.”

Schumer and Fischer began dating in November 2017, becoming engaged a few months later.

Amy Schumer Jokes About Lacking a New Year's Eve Kiss After the Split

“The way that my now-ex-husband proposed was quite unconventional,” Schumer joked during her May 2018 Saturday Night Live monologue. “It was a rather unusual proposal. It happened in the morning while I was asleep. He tossed the box at me and said, ‘I got you this.’ But that’s a realistic proposal.”

Despite their informal engagement, Schumer and the celebrity chef exchanged vows in February 2018. The couple welcomed their only child, son Gene, in May 2019.

Schumer and Fischer consistently supported each other throughout their marriage, often collaborating on various projects. The pair worked together on Schumer’s Hulu series Life & Beth, with Fischer contributing as a writing consultant.

Fischer was also a frequent guest (or cameo) on Schumer’s 2020 Food Network series, Amy Schumer Learns to Cook.

“It’s a constant collaborative effort between us,” the comedian exclusively told Us in May 2024 regarding her and Fischer’s dynamic. “He’s incredibly supportive, and I would never say anything he’s not comfortable with.”

The following year, however, reports emerged in November 2025 suggesting that Schumer and Fischer were experiencing difficulties in their relationship. (The pair sold their Brooklyn townhouse for $11 million that same month.)

Despite the speculation surrounding the split, Schumer praised her spouse in early December 2025 while reflecting on her 2021 endometriosis surgery.

“Just discovered this from years ago and it’s quite lovely. My truest self. Chris appreciated it,” Schumer captioned an Instagram video post from that time period. “I’ve been through a lot with endometriosis. Tell someone you love that they shouldn’t endure heavy, excruciating periods. @endofound donate along with me today.”

Amy Schumer's Reflections on Her Marriage to Chris Fischer Over the Years

Shortly thereafter, Schumer announced her and Fischer’s separation.

“Amy still has affection for Chris, but not in a romantic way,” a source exclusively told Us after the couple’s split became public. “He’s a wonderful person and an even better father.”

The insider explained in December 2025 that Schumer and Fischer’s marriage simply “lost its spark,” noting that there “wasn’t a significant, scandalous reason for their split.”

The source added that the former couple had been “working out” how their split would look for “months,” particularly concerning their 6-year-old son.

“Their goal is to make it as seamless as possible so as not to disrupt their son’s daily life,” the insider told Us. “One of the many things they agree on is Gene and his happiness coming first.”
