Amy Schumer Posts Tribute to Chris Fischer Minutes Before Announcing Separation
Amy Schumer posted a social media tribute to her now-estranged husband, Chris Fischer, before confirming their separation.
“Just found this from years ago. My truest self. Chris liked it,” Schumer, 44, wrote in the caption accompanying a Friday, December 12, Instagram video from her 2021 endometriosis procedure. “I’ve gone through a lot with endometriosis. Advise someone you care about that they shouldn’t have heavy, agonizing periods. @endofound please join me in donating today.”
In the old footage, Fischer, 45, filmed Schumer after she woke up from anesthesia.
“We sit at the bar, we get a couple drinks,” she mumbled drowsily, appearing to drift off. “We just have a great time.”
Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer: A Comprehensive Look at Their Relationship
Schumer announced her divorce from Fischer just over an hour later.
“Blah blah blah Chris and I have made the difficult choice to conclude our marriage after seven years. We still have great affection for each other and will remain committed to co-parenting our son,” her second post on Friday stated. “We request that people respect our privacy during this period.”
The Trainwreck actress emphasized that their split was unrelated to her recent physical health improvements.
“Blah blah blah [this is] not because I shed some pounds and thought I could catch a basket,” Schumer clarified, referencing her recent weight reduction. “And [it's] not because he’s an attractive James Beard Award-winning chef who can still attract other women.”
Schumer stated that her split from Fischer was “friendly.”

“Only love and respect remain,” she finished. “We remain family always.”
Schumer and Fischer began their relationship in 2017, getting married in less than a year.
“It was a very relaxed ceremony. It was organized hastily,” an exclusive source informed Us Weekly in February 2018. “Most attendees learned about the wedding on Tuesday via a text message sent by Amy on Sunday. The message essentially said, ‘Hey, this is happening. If you can attend, fantastic. Otherwise, don't worry about it.’ Guests moved in and out throughout the evening. It was a beautiful day, and everyone enjoyed themselves.”
The comedian and Fischer grew their family, greeting their son Gene in May 2019. Two years later, Schumer underwent a hysterectomy after receiving an endometriosis diagnosis. (The Mayo Clinic states that endometriosis is a frequently painful disorder where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows beyond the uterus.)
Famous Figures Who Shared Experiences with Endometriosis
“It’s the morning after my surgery for endometriosis, and my uterus has been removed,” she stated in a 2021 Instagram video following her operation. “The surgeon discovered 30 endometriosis lesions, which he excised. He also took out my appendix because the endometriosis had affected it.”
Schumer explained at the time, “There was a significant amount of blood in my uterus, and I'm feeling tender, with some gas pains. However, aside from that, I already sense my energy returning.”
Following Schumer's recovery, she retained a souvenir from the operation.
“Jason [Bateman] once asked me, quite disrespectfully, because I had my uterus removed, ‘Did you save it?’ And I responded, ‘I actually did save it,’” Schumer recounted on a 2024 episode of the “Smartless” podcast while discussing her hysterectomy. “I had it preserved in bronze, you know, due to how challenging my pregnancy had been.”
