Aniston and McCurdy Forge Deep Bond Over Shared Motherhood Echoes in Memoir Adaptation
Actress Jennifer Aniston shares a significant connection with her I’m Glad My Mom Died co-star and the memoir's author, Jennette McCurdy.
“Our experiences align quite closely,” Aniston, who is 56, revealed to People in a conversation released on Friday, October 17. “Our mothers shared many resemblances.”
Aniston recounted how both McCurdy’s best-selling book and its forthcoming television adaptation first caught her interest.
“Upon seeing the proposal, which included an opportunity to portray this role and collaborate with Jennette, Sharon Horgan, and LuckyChap, I was instantly fascinated, honored, and enthusiastic,” she explained to the publication. “It promises to be an incredible experience. Filming will be quite exceptional.”

Regarding her younger colleague, Aniston commented, “For her to be the remarkable young woman she is today, after enduring such a life, is truly extraordinary.”
McCurdy, aged 33, whose mother Debra passed away in 2013, released her autobiography I’m Glad My Mom Died in 2022. The publication quickly soared to the top of bestseller charts, partly thanks to the author’s unvarnished glimpse into Jennette’s relationship with Debra.
“This sentiment is truly heartfelt,” Jennette conveyed to BuzzFeed News in August 2022 concerning her book’s title. “I am honestly relieved. Had she been alive, I would remain constrained. None of my life’s significant choices could have transpired.”
Apple TV+ commissioned a debut season for a television adaptation of the memoir in July 2025. The season, consisting of 10 episodes, will be penned, executive produced, and showrun by Jennette and Ari Katcher. Aniston, Sharon Horgan and Merman, LuckyChap, Jerrod Carmichael, and Erica Kay are listed as executive producers.
Back in 2022, Jennette informed The Hollywood Reporter that her relatives endorsed both the book’s provocative title and its eventual launch.
“My siblings have offered immense support and understanding,” she shared with the publication, further noting that her brothers were “not at all” surprised by the selection. “They grasp the essence of the title, to put it plainly. It was also a title I had conceived of quite early.”
Jennette proceeded, “My aim was for something daring and simultaneously deeply genuine. I would never employ a striking and captivating title if it lacked sincerity. I would never choose it if it originated from a trivial mindset. That is not how I approach comedy. I was confident that anyone who had endured parental mistreatment would comprehend the title, and anyone possessing a comedic sensibility would also grasp it.”
The former iCarly actress mentioned that she dedicated considerable time to therapeutic sessions prior to composing the autobiography.

“I certainly experienced much laughter during the writing process; I also shed tears,” she elaborated. “Given that I had completed extensive personal and private introspection beforehand, I believe I reached a point where I could effectively distinguish which elements of my life held genuine entertainment value and deserved public attention, and which did not. I feel I allowed a suitable period for personal reflection before embarking on this project creatively.”
