Anne Heche's Estate Reaches Provisional Settlement Amid Creditor Claims and Asset Scarcity

Anne Heche's Estate Reaches Provisional Settlement Amid Creditor Claims and Asset Scarcity

A “provisional settlement” has been reached by the family of the late actress Anne Heche regarding demands made against her estate following her deadly car accident, as exclusively revealed by Us Weekly.

On Monday, November 3, Homer Laffoon, Heche’s son and the designated administrator of her estate, submitted legal documents requesting an additional six months to finalize all matters.

Laffoon’s legal counsel stated in his report, “The unique nature of [Heche’s] death (a car colliding with a residence) and the potential legal actions that followed necessitated [Laffoon] investing considerable time into assessing claims and pursuing a possible resolution to advance the estate’s management.”

The lawyer further noted that Laffoon “has secured a provisional accord that will require Court sanction, once completed. [Laffoon] holds measured hope that all demands from creditors can be settled outside of court.”

Anne Heche's Son States Estate Lacks Funds to Cover $6 Million in Debts

Heche passed away on August 11, 2022, at 53 years old. (Laffoon was tasked with overseeing the actress’ financial affairs, gathering her due funds, and managing her liabilities.)

The star of I Know What You Did Last Summer drove her vehicle into a Los Angeles residence days prior to being declared deceased at a nearby medical facility. Substantial creditor claims resulted from Heche’s accident, burdening the estate.

Laffoon detailed in the legal submission that three claims related to the car crash had been lodged against the estate. These claims originated from the two property owners and the person leasing the residence. Each demand stemming from the event is for $2 million. An additional creditor claim came from Heche’s former partner and actor Thomas Jane, who asserted she owed him $157,000 from a loan he extended in 2022.

Beyond the demands from creditors, Heche’s son mentioned that several other matters require resolution. He noted that his deceased mother receives “diverse streams of income from entertainment royalties which, combined with absent documentation, have posed challenges in consolidating these earnings into the estate.”

Laffoon stated he has submitted “the necessary documentation to SAG-AFTRA to acquire royalty payments directed to [Heche] or her affiliated businesses for her previous professional engagements in entertainment.”

Laffoon declared the estate to be “bankrupt” and indicated he discovered only limited assets left by his departed mother. He presented two distinct financial statements showing approximately $200,000 in holdings.

He specified that the performer held full ownership of a company named Celestia Films (valued at an estimated $50,000), a share in her podcast venture with her friend Heather Duffy, $25,000 worth of furnishings, $10,000 in performance residuals, $1,500 from literary royalties, an unnegotiated check totaling $25,000, and $76,000 held in a financial institution.

The sole heirs to the estate are Laffoon and his half-sibling, Atlas Tupper. James Tupper, Atlas’ father, initially contested Laffoon’s appointment as the estate’s administrator. Heche’s former partner asserted that the actress had designated him as administrator via email. Laffoon challenged the validity of this email. The court ultimately ruled in favor of Laffoon, granting him authority over Heche’s estate.

As Us earlier conveyed, the official death certificate for Heche indicated that her demise resulted from inhalation and burn injuries.

TMZ stated she had consumed cocaine when the incident occurred, but authorities do not consider this to have impaired her at the moment of the collision.
