Bachelor Grant Ellis Opens Up About His Choice to Remain Celibate Until Finding His Soulmate

The Bachelor’s Grant Ellis is prepared to openly discuss his decision to remain celibate.

Several weeks subsequent to his social media announcement of abstaining from sexual activity until discovering his ideal match, the 31-year-old Ellis offered further details on his choice.

“I’ve only had two serious relationships throughout my entire life, and when I commit, I invest completely,” he explained during the October 24 Friday installment of PodcastOne’s “When Reality Hits” podcast. “My desire is for a connection that is profound and enduring, which is why I am endeavoring to abstain until I encounter my destined partner.”

Following his elimination from Jenn Tran’s season of The Bachelorette, Ellis was selected as the star for season 29 of The Bachelor. Despite proposing to Juliana Pasquarosa in the March finale, the couple’s engagement ended a quarter of a year later.

“I am striving diligently, and my aspiration is for my subsequent partnership to be my forever match,” Ellis confided to podcast host Brittany Cartwright. “If you aren’t that person, then I simply won’t proceed.”

Should romance blossom, Ellis lightheartedly remarked that he would be prepared for intimacy with his lifelong companion.

“Once we engage in sexual activity, it promises to be fantastic,” he stated, chuckling. “I am quite proficient, yet I am exercising patience.”

On October 12, Ellis caught several followers off guard after he published a video on social media confirming his celibacy. Within his communication, the ex-professional basketball athlete elaborated on his individual choice to defer sexual relations.

“As the most recent Bachelor, I believe I possess some credibility in the realm of romance, given that the program centers on dating,” he elucidated. “Discovering something earnest — a connection truly deserving of effort — proves exceptionally challenging, particularly here in Los Angeles and expansive metropolitan areas such as New York.”

Though the choice to remain celibate can be “difficult,” Ellis is convinced he is making the appropriate decision for his personal well-being.

“I am a man,” he confessed. “Undoubtedly, I experience my impulses and yearnings, and I am simply being completely forthright. I have made errors previously.”

Ellis attributes his perseverance on this path to his spiritual connection with God.

“Principally, it stems from my religious conviction. … God comprehends the innermost wishes of your heart and understands what brings you contentment,” he elaborated. “The very same divine being who knows how to bring you joy would also know how to provide you with a partner without requiring you to ‘test drive’ intimate connections.”

This marks not the initial instance Ellis has candidly discussed his perspectives on sexuality and intimate relationships.

In a conversation with ABC’s previous Bachelor, Nick Viall, Ellis mentioned he approached his fantasy suites with thoughtfulness and consideration.

“Individuals will likely perceive me as a womanizer or something similar — or that I was merely seeking physical gratification,” Ellis stated during a March installment of “The Viall Files” podcast. “That wasn’t my motivation. My approach was with genuine intentions, and before that period, I had been celibate for twelve months. I had just exited a seven-year partnership and was experiencing emotional pain, so, while physical intimacy is enjoyable, my priority was ensuring it was with my soulmate, and then we could be intimate constantly.”
