Bachelor's Alexe and Andrew Spill on "Playful Bickering" and Financial Debates

Power couple Alexe Godin and Andrew Spencer, who found love on the tenth season of Bachelor in Paradise, candidly admit that their romance, much like any other, is not without its share of spirited discussions.

“We both appreciate engaging in healthy debate; we genuinely enjoy a bit of playful bickering,” Alexe, 28, shared during a recent appearance on the “Dear Shandy” podcast, aired on Thursday, November 27. “For us, it signifies investment and care in the relationship.”

Andrew, 30, subsequently disclosed that their most significant disagreements often revolve around financial matters.

“I always harbored this notion that I wouldn’t need to be the primary financial planner, anticipating I’d find someone to expertly handle those affairs,” Alexe confessed. “Then I met Andrew, who shares my approach, and my immediate thought was, ‘Oh dear, this could be quite the predicament.’”

Andrew, conversely, offered a different perspective, suggesting they are “not entirely aligned” in their approach to financial navigation.

“We address the core issues head-on; there’s no reluctance to discuss them,” he elaborated. “She — believe me — thoroughly articulates her sentiments on the matter. It primarily concerns investments. My stance was, ‘Look, I have a financial advisor, and I’m simply ensuring the timing is optimal.’ Her immediate retort was, ‘The optimal time is now. We must prioritize saving for our future.’”

Andrew subsequently offered reassurance to Alexe, who recently celebrated the significant milestone of eliminating her student loan debts, affirming that their financial future “will be secure.”

“I emerged from modest beginnings, and my contentment lies in shared love over material possessions,” the former football player elucidated. “My focus has never been on choosing financial security above genuine affection in a partner.”

From Andrew’s perspective, his girlfriend’s intention was merely to encourage him to “excel further” in managing his income and investment portfolio.

“My response was, ‘Darling, I’m managing quite effectively; I understand my financial strategies,’” he recounted. “Her retort was, ‘I aspire to retire by a certain age.’ To which I playfully countered, ‘My love, observe the current economic landscape. Retirement isn’t as straightforward for many these days.’”

Alexe, on her part, explained that she was consistently advised on the critical role of investments in establishing a stable livelihood.

“I honestly believed it wouldn’t be feasible for me, primarily due to my student loan burden,” she stated. “My internal monologue was, ‘I’ll likely never achieve that.’ While ‘finance, finance’ echoed in my mind, ultimately, my greatest desire is simply to be with the person I genuinely adore. Material wealth is secondary … we&ll navigate challenges and thrive, even if our home is modest.”

Notwithstanding these infrequent skirmishes, Alexe and Andrew consistently demonstrate an ability to reach amicable resolutions.

“We aren’t individuals who harbor grudges,” Alexe explained. “I believe that’s a significant factor in our dynamic. In the end, we invariably find ourselves laughing and exchanging ‘I love yous.’ Spending time with Andrew is simply delightful; his humor is infectious, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate.”

Their romance blossomed during Bachelor in Paradise season 10, culminating in a dramatic finale where their bond was truly put to the test: Alexe faced the profound decision between her connection with Andrew and a substantial cash prize of a quarter of a million dollars.

“My thought process was, ‘I have a choice between securing a sum of money or opting for love without immediate financial gain,’” Alexe recounted regarding her pivotal decision to choose Andrew over the monetary reward. “I envisioned that by prioritizing love, it would be recognized as a grand gesture, perhaps leading to further reward. I am unequivocally delighted with my choice.”
