Ben Stiller Reflects on Rekindled Love with Christine Taylor Following Extended Separation

Ben Stiller is openly discussing his extended separation from his wife, Christine Taylor.

Following the passing of his father, Jerry Stiller, in 2020, the actor began contemplating a documentary about his renowned parents. Despite his professional success at the time, the 59-year-old Ben admitted his private life was struggling.

"My professional life had been stable for years, but my personal life was far from ideal," Ben recounted in the film Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost, which debuted at the New York Film Festival on Sunday, October 5, according to People. "I felt disoriented, discontent, and somewhat detached from my family, my children, and generally a bit adrift."

He added, "I began reflecting on my parents and the significant stress and strain I observed during my childhood, the pressures they faced while collaborating professionally, and how they managed to stay united through it all. … I believe I wanted to grasp how they achieved that."

Ben Stiller Offers Candid Insights Into His Relationship With Christine Taylor

Ben and Taylor shared 17 years together prior to disclosing their separation in 2017.

"Harboring immense love and mutual respect, and after 18 years as a married couple, we have chosen to part ways," the duo informed Us Weekly through a joint announcement then. "Our primary focus remains raising our children as dedicated parents and the dearest of friends. We respectfully request media privacy during this period."

The couple — parents to Ella, 23, and Quinn, 20 — announced their reconciliation in 2022.

"Subsequently, with the passage of time, [our connection] transformed," he disclosed to Esquire in a 2022 interview, clarifying that he returned to live with Taylor and their children during the COVID-19 crisis. "We had separated but reunited, and we are delighted by this. It has been truly positive for our entire family. It was unforeseen, and one of the outcomes of the pandemic."

Ben Stiller Ponders His Extended Break From Wife Christine Taylor

Since their reunion, Ben has offered insights into his marital interactions with Taylor. This January, Ben remembered his marriage being "in a difficult spot" following their relocation from California back to New York post-Zoolander 2's debut.

"Many things were happening," Ben informed The New York Times. "When we took a break, it provided the distance to assess our bond, to experience what my existence felt like without that partnership, and to recognize how deeply I cherished our family structure."

He added, "We were apart for approximately three or four years, yet we remained linked. Personally, I always wished for us to be together. I'm unsure of Christine's perspective; you'd need to ask her, but Covid brought us all under one roof."

When the journalist described the timing as "divine intervention," Ben concurred with the observation.

"We resided in the same home for nearly a year before truly reconciling," Ben elaborated. "Yet, I am incredibly thankful for it, and I believe not many couples manage to reunite after separating. There's an unmatched feeling when you do come back. You possess a much deeper gratitude for what you have, because we understand it could have been lost."

Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost will be shown in chosen cinemas starting October 17 and will be accessible for streaming on Apple TV+ from October 24.
