Bill Hader and Ali Wong Reportedly End On-Again, Off-Again Romance
Bill Hader and Ali Wong have ended their romantic relationship after more than two years of dating, according to several news outlets.
People was the first to report the news on Wednesday, January 7, citing the pair’s demanding schedules as the reason for their split.
Us Weekly has contacted representatives for Hader and Wong for a statement.
This isn’t the first time the couple have taken a break from their relationship. Hader, 47, and Wong, 43, were initially linked in the fall of 2022 but reportedly separated that December.
Bill Hader and Ali Wong's Relationship Timeline Before Their Split
The pair rekindled their romance the following year, with Us confirming in April 2023 that Hader and Wong were officially back together.
Hader confirmed their reunion that same month when he discussed his “girlfriend” during an interview with Collider.
The duo were later photographed enjoying a hike together on Wong’s 41st birthday, sharing a kiss in a photo obtained by Page Six in April 2023.
At the time, a source exclusively told Us that the Saturday Night Live alum was proceeding cautiously with Wong after getting back together.
Inside Bill Hader and Ali Wong's Plans to 'Blend' Their Families
“It’s a serious romance, but there’s no discussion about moving in together or anything like that,” the insider said in April 2023. “Although they appear to be committed, they’re both on the same page about taking things one day at a time. Right now, it’s all about having a connection, which they do, and having some fun.”
The source noted that the timing felt opportune for Wong and Hader to give their relationship another try.
“Ali and Bill have known each other for a while from their respective comedy circles,” the insider added. “They were friends first, nothing serious, but once she was single, the possibility of dating arose. They were both in a good place in their lives and decided to give it another chance.”
Hader and Wong, who have both been married previously, continued to keep their romance relatively private over the next two years. (Hader finalized his divorce from ex-wife Maggie Carey, with whom he shares three daughters, in 2018. Wong has two children with Justin Hakuta, whom she was married to from 2014 to 2022.)
In January 2024, Hader and Wong were seen sharing a kiss at the Golden Globes after she received an award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for The Beef.
The couple were observed displaying affection one week later at the 75th annual Emmy Awards.
Bill Hader Says Ali Wong is ‘Off the Market’ at Her Comedy Show
Despite maintaining a low profile for most of their relationship, Hader’s absence from the 2025 Golden Globes sparked speculation that there were difficulties in their relationship. Wong’s acceptance speech also raised eyebrows at the awards show — she didn’t mention Hader when she won Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television — but Hader’s representative denied they had separated.
“Bill was unable to attend the Globes due to a pre-existing eye condition that worsened and he was advised by his doctor to stay home and rest,” Hader’s rep told People in January 2025. “He and Ali are still together.”
The following month, Hader and Wong presented a united front when they made their official red carpet debut as a couple at the 2025 Directors Guild of America Awards.
Bill Hader and Ali Wong Keep Close at the Emmys
Hader offered insight into his relationship with Wong during an April 2025 appearance on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, describing her as a member of his “support system” after his home became “untenable” following the January 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles.
“It is a funny thing that Ali and I went today to just, literally, I had to shop for clothes,” Hader explained on the show. “And it was very kind. She was like, ‘Let’s go get you some jeans.’”
Hader revealed the simple gesture “meant a lot” to him “because I’m just wearing Uniqlo sweats and my kids are like, ‘You’re living in your pajamas.’ They’re very concerned,” he quipped. “And I told her about that, and she was like, ‘Well, let me take you out to get some clothes.’”
