Blake Lively Backs Taylor Swift's New Album Amidst Ongoing Legal Battle
Blake Lively expressed support for Taylor Swift’s recently released album, The Life of a Showgirl, while in the midst of her continuing legal dispute with Justin Baldoni.
On Instagram, Lively signaled her approval by "liking" Swift's announcement celebrating the debut of her 12th studio album, which became available on Friday, October 3.
“Here, tonight, all these stories meet / A tapestry woven with joy and sorrow mixed in equal measure,” Swift penned in a lyrical caption accompanying album imagery. “Where kindred spirits voice shared sentiments / And it is wondrous / It is intoxicating / It is unsettling.”
Swift further communicated her satisfaction with the completed project, extending thanks to her creative partners, Max Martin and Shellback.
Taylor Swift Reportedly Faced 'Complete Quiet' From Blake Lively Following Legal Troubles
“My immense pride in sharing this album with you, which resonates so perfectly, is beyond words. My eternal gratitude goes to my guides and companions, Max and Shellback, for their assistance in crafting this personal portrayal,” she went on to say. “If you found the main spectacle thrilling, perhaps you should venture backstage … The Life of a Showgirl is available everywhere now.”
Swift and Lively have maintained a tight friendship for a long time. Nevertheless, their bond has experienced fluctuations owing to Lively’s active litigation against Baldoni.
The conflict between Lively and Baldoni originated in December 2024, when the actress charged her It Ends With Us co-star and director with sexual harassment and orchestrating a supposed campaign to discredit her. Baldoni forcefully rejected these claims and filed a countersuit against Lively.
Though a judge previously dismissed Baldoni's legal action in June, Lively's case continues to advance and has a court date set for March 2026.
Swift — whose track “My Tears Ricochet” is featured in the movie — became entangled in the legal dispute when Baldoni issued a subpoena for her. Swift refuted any participation in the film.
The Way Blake Lively Strongly Stood Up for Friend Taylor Swift Following Recent Legal Action
“Taylor Swift was never present on the film's set, she played no part in casting or artistic choices, she did not compose music for the movie, nor did she review any edits or provide feedback on the production,” Swift’s representative stated in May to Us Weekly. “She only viewed It Ends With Us weeks after its general release, having been touring internationally throughout 2023 and 2024 on the most monumental tour ever.”
Subsequently in the same month, Baldoni’s legal team rescinded their subpoenas for Swift, a development Lively marked as a victory.
“We are gratified that Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer Parties have retracted their unwarranted subpoenas issued to Taylor Swift and her legal representation,” Lively’s team's statement declared. “We backed Taylor’s legal group in their endeavors to invalidate these improper subpoenas aimed at her attorney and will persist in defending any third party subjected to unjust harassment or intimidation during these proceedings.”
Following Lively’s triumph in court, an insider revealed exclusively to Us that the bond between Swift and the former Gossip Girl star remained strained.
“Despite the positive outcome for Blake, her connection with Taylor has not yet been restored,” the source elaborated. “Taylor has not contacted Blake and continues to avoid any conversation concerning the legal proceedings.”
Blake Lively Tries to Prevent Justin Baldoni From Accessing Taylor Swift's Messages
Almost four months subsequently, Swift was again drawn into the legal conflict for a deposition requested by Baldoni’s legal representatives. In a communication sent to the judge in September, Baldoni’s attorneys asserted that Swift had consented to a deposition in October. Nonetheless, Swift’s lawyer sharply criticized this assertion, denying her "agreement" and instead claiming she was "compelled." Baldoni’s plea for additional time to depose the music icon was subsequently turned down by a judge.
Once Showgirl became available on Friday, listeners speculated that the song “Cancelled!” might be referencing Lively.
“They thought I was blameless / Therefore I'm not here to be assessed,” Swift vocalizes. “But if you're unable to be virtuous, then simply become more proficient at it / Everyone harbors secrets / Or has taken another's partner / Will guide you / And swiftly you'll master the technique of evading detection.”
Conversely, some have conjectured that the melody might pertain to Swift’s recent acquaintance and fellow WAG, Brittany Mahomes, whom Swift became close with after her relationship began with her now-fiancé, Travis Kelce.
