Breaking Amish Star Jeremiah Raber Shares Positive Health Update After Hospital Scare
Breaking Amish cast member Jeremiah Raber has reassured his TikTok audience that he is recovering after a worrying few days.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has been praying for me. I truly appreciate it,” Raber, 42, wrote to his fans via TikTok on Friday, January 2.
Raber previously shared several concerning posts on social media, some of which showed him in a hospital bed. On December 30, Raber stated he had a “potential liver failure” and was “preparing to be transported to another hospital by air.”
At that time, Raber informed his followers that his blood sugar level was “993” — which is dangerously elevated and potentially life-threatening, according to The Cleveland Clinic. The clinic notes that blood sugar levels below 100 are considered “normal fasting blood sugar levels,” while 126 or higher may suggest that a person has diabetes.

Later on December 30, Raber posted still images of himself being placed onto a waiting helicopter, likely to be flown to another medical facility for further treatment.
Raber returned to TikTok on Thursday, January 1, to repost a comment from someone labeling him a “scammer” and claiming that the reality personality “deserved it.” The former Breaking Amish participant accompanied the critical post with a brief video clip of himself waving to the camera while lying in a hospital bed.
Two days later, Raber finally received some positive news. He expressed gratitude to his followers for their prayers and announced that he had made significant progress over the past few days.
“I’m doing well and will be released tomorrow,” he announced.
“Stay positive, let the critics criticize and enjoy your life to the fullest! Get some rest,” one fan wrote, while another responded: “Sending healing energy.”
A third fan advised Raber to prioritize his health, writing: “Take care of yourself! Heal before you worry about anything! Care for yourself because nobody else can. You know what I mean? Stay healthy. Please!”
Raber previously disclosed he was experiencing serious health problems in March 2024. At that time, Raber thanked his TikTok followers for donating “enough money to see a doctor for [his] heart issue and related concerns.”
“Hopefully soon I’ll be at the doctor’s and getting it checked out,” he promised his fans. “I appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.”
InTouch Weekly reported in April 2024 that the reality star spent two days in the hospital for heart problems and diabetic ketoacidosis. (The Cleveland Clinic describes diabetic ketoacidosis as “a serious complication of diabetes and undiagnosed Type 1 diabetes” and recommends that anyone who suspects they may have the condition seek immediate medical attention.)

Raber was one of the most recognizable figures on TLC’s Breaking Amish when it debuted in 2012. The documentary series followed young Amish and Mennonite individuals venturing out of their religious communities to experience life in New York City for the first time.
Prior to the initial season airing, Raber had separated from his first wife, Naomi Stutzman, with whom he shares three children. He later rejoined the series for 2014’s Return to Amish and remained a core member of the cast for seven seasons.
Return to Amish’s third season finale — which aired in August 2016 — documented Jeremiah and his second wife, Carmela Mendez Raber, on their wedding day. The couple had several very public breakups and reconciliations in subsequent years, culminating in Carmela filing a restraining order against Jeremiah in March 2022.
“It’s all based on reports from back [in 2017],” he told InTouch Weekly at the time. “She used the situation to obtain the order just to remove me. It’s sad how quickly people are to post things like that but ignore the positive changes people have made in their lives.”
Jeremiah announced in May 2022 that he and Carmela were “no longer together,” though he insisted he “will always love her.”
