Candace Cameron Bure Opens Up About Marriage Struggles and the Faith That Restored Her

Candace Cameron Bure has navigated various phases in her life, many of which have challenged her enduring marriage to Valeri Bure.

“There are times I grapple with a sense of brokenness. I’ve encountered that,” Cameron Bure, 49, exclusively shared with Us Weekly on Tuesday, November 4, during the promotion of her new book, Rise and Renew: A 30-Day Devotional to Heal a Hurting Heart, Overcome Emotional Pain, and Grow in Your Faith – Interactive Devotions with Bible … and Creative Exercises (One Step Closer). “I mean, we all do. I don’t know that it&rsquos [something] I feel on a daily basis, but there have been periods of that in my life.”

The Full House veteran mentioned that she has faced “numerous” challenging periods throughout her life, yet with Bure, 51, by her side, she has successfully endured them.

“I believe there’s always been a struggle balancing career and family life. I think many women experience that,” Cameron Bure elaborated on her personal highs and lows.

The actress disclosed that while she and Bure share an “extraordinary, wonderful” bond, after 29 years of marriage, they have also faced “periods of genuine difficulty,” which they gradually “reconstructed.”

“There were moments of profound brokenness that I felt. But God is in the business of restoration,” Cameron Bure clarified, highlighting that she discusses her relationship, family, and spiritual journey in her latest publication. “[God] delights in restoring and making all things fresh, and he certainly has.”

Cameron Bure previously disclosed on her “Candace Cameron Bure Podcast” in July that she and Bure navigated a “difficult phase” before their eldest son, Lev, 25, helped them reconnect.

Candace Cameron Bure's Top Quotations Regarding Her Marriage to Valeri Bure

“I’ll never forget, ‘cause he said, ‘You know, I know I haven’t been married. I’m just a young kid. And so it’s probably hard to take marriage advice from someone this young [who] never experienced it before. But I don’t need to be married to know what the word of God says,’” the Timeless Tidings of Joy actress recounted.

Cameron Bure, who also shares daughter Natasha, 27, and son Maksim, 23, with the former NHL player, informed Us on Tuesday that her “solemn promise and dedication” to Bure “was consistently present even when we reached a critical juncture.”

Once she and Bure recognized “we don’t actually want” to remain in an unfavorable state as a couple, they began endeavors to mend the fissures in their union.

“Sometimes within relationships, we have to dismantle it, like, into what seems like so many shattered fragments, but then when you reassemble them, you genuinely can construct something even superior,” Cameron Bure shared.

Fortunately, for Cameron Bure and her husband, whom she married in 1996, their initiatives to rectify their relationship have yielded positive results.

“I am more deeply in love with my husband today than when we first met. He is genuinely my closest confidant,” she effused. “We’re in a distinct phase of life because our children are adults. We have two who are married, and you must rediscover your connection when the kids grow older. And so we’re experiencing this wonderful period of life.”

How Candace Cameron Bure and Her Husband 'Persevere Through' Difficulties

Cameron Bure told Us that her marital fluctuations and challenges served as part of the inspiration behind her new book, Rise and Renew, which is set to be released this month.

“I actually penned it during the pandemic. … That truly was the time when we were all navigating a great deal,” the Home Sweet Christmas star elaborated. “There were adversities, not solely due to COVID and being under lockdown and all of that, but also differences within my family life, even within my marriage.”

She recalled, “I needed to truly contemplate what was authentic and correct and not allow my thoughts to spiral. And so that’s where the book truly originated.”

Cameron Bure revealed that the book is structured as a 30-day devotional, encouraging readers to “devote really five minutes, 10 minutes to the word.”

“It’s filled with scripture from the Bible, and I include some personal contemplations,” she continued. “It’s simply to remind women, as they read it, that there is optimism to be found, because our life circumstances don’t always unfold precisely as we desire.”

Cameron Bure said, “Awakening every single morning, refreshing our minds with who God declares we are, and being reminded of who he is, can simply transform our day and create a significant impact.”

When engaging with the book, Cameron Bure hopes individuals will surrender their “ensnared” thoughts to God.
