Cardi B Opens Up About Heartbreak and Healing After Offset Separation
Cardi B has candidly discussed the profound emotional distress she experienced leading up to her separation from Offset.
“I sensed that the affection in my marriage was fading — both from my side and his,” the 32-year-old Cardi revealed during the October 6 Monday installment of the “On Purpose” podcast. “My profound solitude was a result of my own choices.”
Cardi initiated divorce proceedings against Offset, 33, in July 2024. Just two months later, she gave birth to their daughter, Blossom. (The rapper is also a mother to Kulture, 7, and Wave, 4, from her relationship with him.)
“As our relationship deteriorated, I was pregnant, and I constantly pondered, ‘How will life unfold without this individual? How will I raise my youngest child alone? What will it be like if this person is no longer my confidant?’” Cardi recounted to host Jay Shetty. “Such contemplations can lead to sorrow, depression, and a sense of being adrift. However, I triumphed over it.”

Presently, the acclaimed Grammy artist is expecting her first baby with her partner, NFL star Stefon Diggs.
The “Bodak Yellow” sensation noted that a considerable period of healing was necessary before she felt ready for a new romantic relationship.
“My emotions required months to truly accept closure, rather than just my verbal declarations or logical thoughts,” she clarified. “One can articulate an end and even act upon it, but if one's feelings haven't caught up, the process isn't truly complete.”
A source of solace for the rapper during her challenging period of change was fellow music star, Shakira. As they worked together on the successful track “Puntería,” the two connected over shared experiences of romantic heartache and publicized breakups.
“During that period, I was collaborating with Shakira and I asked her, ‘How did you possibly get through this? How did you manage to move past it?’ And her response was, ‘It will eventually happen,’” Cardi recalled. “And I thought, 'No way, it never will.' Yet, it did. It involved tears, deep contemplation, and frightening reflections. But I’ve persevered, and I am now the most resilient I’ve ever been. It truly was arduous.”
Shakira and her partner of many years, Gerard Piqué, publicly declared their separation in June 2022, following a 12-year relationship. They had two sons, Milan, 12, and Sasha, 10, during their time together.
“We are saddened to announce our parting,” their joint statement to Reuters read then. “For the welfare of our children, who are paramount to us, we request privacy.”
Shakira subsequently disclosed that musician Chris Martin was among those who provided comfort to her throughout her challenging phase.
“He supported me during my separation and emotional distress,” Shakira told Rolling Stone in June 2022. “He contacted me daily to check on my condition, offering encouragement, resilience, and sagely advice.”

Although Shakira was most recently associated with Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount, Cardi is presently cherishing moments with Diggs, 31.
She commends the NFL athlete for demonstrating “respect” regarding her previous romantic ties — and for his consistent communication.
“There were times we’d converse, and then periods where we wouldn’t speak for weeks or even a month,” Cardi recounted on the September 24 installment of Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “Strangely, it felt as though he would consistently reach out precisely when I needed it. He’d contact me whenever I was feeling unsettled … and our discussions would be incredibly meaningful. It reached a point where we’d realize we’d been chatting for six or seven hours.”
