Cardi B Slams Offset for Divorce Delay Citing Financial Demands
Cardi B responded to critics questioning the delay in her divorce finalization from Offset, asserting that her estranged husband is impeding the proceedings.
“Indeed, I am expecting a child with another individual. What of it? These things occur. Such is life,” the 32-year-old artist declared during an X Spaces discussion on Monday, September 22. “Allow me to explain, I approached things properly initially. I experienced love. I wore two rings. Our relationship endured for seven years. … Cease asserting, ‘Oh, but you remain wed.’ No, I am legally apart.”
Cardi initiated divorce proceedings against Offset, 33, in July 2024, yet she contended that he is the obstacle preventing them from finalizing their separation.
“The sole reason I remain legally wed is because someone desires me to cover their tax obligations,” she asserted. “Do you wish to hear the truth? My only path to dissolving this marriage involves me paying for someone else’s taxes, despite managing my own, and relinquishing one of my estates. I am contesting this; I will continue to fight for it. This situation holds no romantic sentiment.”

She elaborated, “I refuse to live my life restricted by a contractual obligation where I’m essentially still married because someone intends to extort me if I don’t provide them with millions of dollars to secure my release. Thus, this is my current life struggle. … You all desire me to remarry and similar things to have another child and such. I am pursuing what brings me contentment. I handled it correctly initially.”
Cardi recently disclosed her pregnancy, expecting her first child with boyfriend Stefon Diggs, with whom she was initially associated in late 2024. The Grammy recipient already has daughters Kulture, 7, and Blossom, 12 months, and son Wave, 4, with Offset.
Previously this month, Cardi responded to reports indicating that Diggs, 31, is subject to a paternity lawsuit filed by a woman alleging he is the father of her 5-month-old daughter.
“Is that your child’s father? He is my child’s father as well,” Cardi stated during an Instagram Live broadcast. “So, what transpires next? I honestly do not know. We will resolve it.”

Both Cardi and Offset discussed their separation in their recent musical releases, with Cardi conveying her sorrow regarding the conclusion of their relationship on the Am I the Drama? song “Man of Your Word.”
When questioned about the composition during a CBS Mornings interview last week, Cardi responded, “I simply desire him to be a more upright individual. However, circumstances are as they are. Improve yourself for your children.”
Offset, concurrently, rhymed about the marital dissolution on “Move On,” a track from his most recent album, Kiari, released last month.
“The essence is about progressing, in a serene manner,” he communicated to the Associated Press concerning the track. “That is the intended message, advancing with tranquility.”
