Cassie Breaks Silence on Diddy's Sentence Urging Judge for Victim's Truth

Singer Cassie commented on the four-year jail term handed to her former partner, Sean “Diddy” Combs, through a statement issued by her legal representative.

Attorney Douglas Wigdor informed Us Weekly on Friday, October 3, stating, “While nothing can undo the trauma caused by Combs, the sentence imposed today recognizes the impact of the serious offenses he committed.” He added, “We are confident that with the support of her family and friends, Ms. Ventura will continue healing knowing that her bravery and fortitude have been an inspiration to so many.”

Combs received a 50-month jail sentence on Friday, a consequence of his July conviction for two counts related to transporting individuals for prostitution. More severe accusations, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, saw him acquitted. (Combs had entered a not-guilty plea to the charges and refuted all claims leveled against him.)

Cassie, known to have had an intermittent relationship with Diddy between 2007 and 2018, served as a crucial witness during his federal trial, which commenced in May. For four days, Cassie, who at the time was expecting her third child with husband Alex Fine, provided testimony detailing the alleged physical and sexual abuse she endured from Diddy throughout their time together.

Cassie Delivers Moving Testimony Regarding Allegations of Diddy Raping Her

A significant portion of her testimony centered on Diddy’s purported “freak offs,” which Casandra Ventura (Cassie’s full name) asserted involved soliciting escorts for sexual acts. She informed the court, “The freak offs became a job where there was no space to do anything else but to recover and just try to feel normal again,” asserting that these events could span from 36 hours to four days and entailed engaging in sex with “strangers” amid drug and alcohol consumption. With interruptions, she contended, these events could extend even further, requiring subsequent recovery periods from dehydration, lack of sleep, and substance use.

Previously, Cassie initiated legal action against Diddy in November 2023, alleging physical and sexual abuse throughout their relationship. He refuted her claims through a statement from his attorney, and the parties reached an out-of-court settlement just one day later. In the course of the trial, Cassie disclosed that Diddy compensated her with $20 million.

Half a year later, CNN broadcasted leaked security camera video depicting Diddy assaulting Cassie within a Los Angeles hotel. This footage was introduced as evidence during the proceedings, and Cassie testified that she was trying to depart from a “freak off” when the recording occurred. (Diddy issued an apology for his conduct in a social media video released in May 2024.)

Cassie's Path Forward Following Accusations of Diddy's Abuse and Her Startling Testimony

Prior to Diddy’s sentencing on Friday, Cassie sent a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, urging him to take into account the victims’ experiences when determining her ex-partner’s jail duration.

In the letter dated Tuesday, September 30, she penned, “If there is one thing I have learned from this experience, it is that victims and survivors will never be safe.” She continued, “Although I can hope for justice and accountability, I have come to not trust anything. I hope that your decision considers the truths at hand that the jury failed to see.”

She further expressed her apprehension of reprisal from Diddy or his affiliates once he is released.

Cassie Shares Her Thoughts After Delivering Moving Testimony in the Diddy Trial

She stated, “I still have nightmares and flashbacks on a regular, everyday basis, and continue to require psychological care to cope with my past. My worries that Sean Combs or his associates will come after me and my family is my reality,” She elaborated, “I have in fact moved my family out of the New York area and am keeping as private and quiet as I possibly can because I am so scared that if he walks free, his first actions will be swift retribution towards me and others who spoke up about his abuse at trial. As much progress as I have made in recovering from his abuse, I remain very much afraid of what he is capable of and the malice he undoubtedly harbors towards me for having the bravery to tell the truth.”

Cassie concluded her letter by saying, “I hope that your sentencing decision reflects the strength it took for victims of Sean Combs to come forward. I hope that your decision considers the many lives that Sean Combs has upended with his abuse and control.”
