Catholic Influencer Paul Kim Mourns Loss of 5-Year-Old Son Micah

Catholic influencer Paul Kim is grieving the loss of his son Micah following a medical emergency.

“Micah Joseph is now experiencing the unending glory, love, and peace of God,” Kim wrote via Instagram on Thursday, January 1. “Micah has been very busy already, as I see the Lord using him and sending him on missions to bring millions of people closer to God. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses (Heb 12:1) that my son is now a part of. I couldn’t be a prouder father. This reality gives me great joy and hope in the midst of sorrow.”

Kim confirmed that his 5-year-old son passed away on Wednesday, December 31, and is “already in heaven at work.”

“Our hearts are broken; but we trust in the Lord,” he continued. “Please pray for my family and me as we learn how to live by faith and not by sight.”

Kim drew the attention of his followers on December 21 when he revealed Micah was in a hospital and on life support after a “medical emergency.” Doctors gradually lessened life support, with Micah’s lungs showing slow improvement on a ventilator. A subsequent MRI, however, revealed significant brain damage.

For the next 11 days, Kim shared updates with his followers and received support from thousands of believers, including Gwen Stefani and The Chosen star Jonathan Roumie.

Along with an outpouring of prayer for Micah, a GoFundMe campaign was also started to support the family amid increasing medical expenses.

“Thank you for all the affection, prayers and compassion that a great number of you have shown us,” Kim shared on Thursday. “May God truly bless you. Your prayers for Micah were answered, but in a different way than we had all hoped for. God healed and welcomed him into eternal life. He is where we all desire to be.”

While attempting to hold back tears in an Instagram video, Kim requested privacy and time for his family to grieve. At the same time, he felt like “I owed all of you an update out of gratitude.”

“After fighting 11 long, difficult days, Micah went home to our Father’s house. We’re so proud of him,” he shared while crying. “I want to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart, as his dad and on behalf of my family, for all the ways you guys prayed and lifted us up during this incredibly difficult, impossible time for our family. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever been through in my life and it continues to be.”

Kim, who is a father of six children and an ambassador for Cross Catholic Outreach, assured followers that he has not lost his faith. In fact, he’s confident his son now hears his prayers along with many others.

“Be assured that I will pray for you and your intentions for the rest of my life. We will and Micah will,” he said in a separate Instagram video. “You can turn to my Saint Micah and ask for his prayers. His prayers are powerful, man.”
