Celebrities blend traditions for interfaith Hanukkah celebrations
Celebrities are marking the Festival of Lights this Hanukkah season.
“Prior to illuminating the candles, we contemplate a miracle we might bring about for someone else,” Ashton Kutcher, who does not identify with Judaism, shared with Noa Tishby during a December 15 interview regarding celebrating Hanukkah with his wife Mila Kunis and their two children. He added, “This provides a magnificent opportunity for reflection.”
The couple, who tied the knot in 2015, are parents to daughter Wyatt and son Dimitri; Kunis actively observes Judaism.
“I believe I am simply fond of tradition,” Kunis stated during the joint holiday discussion. “I enjoy the sense of community. I appreciate any shared activity, and for me, lighting the menorah evokes a strong feeling of togetherness.”
Other public figures, such as Mayim Bialik, Alan Bersten, and Selena Gomez, have also observed the Festival of Lights in December. Gomez, in particular, decorated a Christmas tree using Hanukkah-themed decorations as a tribute to her husband Benny Blanco's Jewish faith.
Gomez and Blanco recently married in September, though neither intends to convert to the other's religion.
“We wish for our children to inherit both sets of our values and ethical principles,” Blanco previously told Interview magazine in February, discussing their future family objectives. He expressed hope that “when we combine them, they will hopefully develop positively.”
