Cheryl Hines on Political Rift with Larry David and Navigating Hollywood Amidst RFK Jr.'s Career
The bond between Cheryl Hines and her on-screen spouse from Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David, has become tense during the year following the conclusion of the show's 12-season run.
On the "Hot Mics" podcast, Billy Bush, 54, posed the question to Hines, 60, on Monday, October 27, "That connection shifted somewhat, wouldn't you say?" This was in reference to her rapport with David, 78, a known strong liberal. Hines is notably wedded to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services in Donald Trump’s Republican administration, a man she first encountered during a ski outing accompanied by David.
After acknowledging she hadn't communicated with her former scene partner "for some time" following the Curb finale premiere in April 2024, she stated, "I care for Larry deeply, and I believe he feels the same about me. I suspect the issue is simply political differences."
Bush, 54, then inquired if Hines herself would initiate a call to David, or if the responsibility to connect lay with him.

Hines replied, "I don't believe it's dependent on either party." She continued, "It's noteworthy; I have another friend I used to converse with almost daily, who no longer speaks to me. However, Larry isn't someone you just phone up for a casual chat. I do sense that if I had a specific reason to contact him, he would engage in conversation. I don't think he would refuse to speak with me."
She added, "The reality is, simply being aware that I am married to Bobby, and that he holds a position in the administration, is sufficient for some individuals to wish to avoid my presence or company. It's simply too difficult for them."
Hines observed that she has seen how political views "have the power to intrude and transform every aspect" of different personal connections.
Regarding her husband's political aspirations, she remarked, "I couldn't have envisioned this storyline." She further explained, "I gained significant insights when Bobby was campaigning for president. It was an unfamiliar territory for me, but observing it unfold was quite fascinating."
The Chronicle of Cheryl Hines and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Romance
Hines also stated that an unnamed fellow professional had cautioned her that Kennedy's involvement in politics might have repercussions for her acting career.
Speaking about her recent move to Washington, D.C., alongside Kennedy, 71, Hines commented, "Should an excellent opportunity arise, I would pursue it. The world of entertainment has endured numerous challenges." She added, "As all this began to unfold … it was difficult when individuals questioned, 'Are you experiencing the impact?' It's likely that some people will choose not to collaborate with me due to my marriage to Bobby, while concurrently, others are contacting me with project offers because they value me and are unconcerned by political alignments. These may not be the same individuals I've collaborated with previously."
In another segment of the podcast discussion, Hines reflected on her professional relationship with David prior to the conclusion of Curb Your Enthusiasm last year.
She recounted her initial audition, stating, "I wasn't particularly familiar with Larry then." She continued, "Knowing he was considerably older, I simply thought, 'There's nothing to be done about that, so I'll just give my utmost.' I wasn't entirely taken aback when informed I secured the role, as occasionally you enter a space and sense the atmosphere, perceiving that everything aligns perfectly, precisely as it should in that instant. It simply felt entirely unforced."
