Chrissy Teigen Opens Up About Her Emotional Journey with Ozempic After Son's Death
Chrissy Teigen is openly discussing a subject that has been widely discussed in the news, on social media, and among celebrities — and now, she's revealing her own experience.
The 39-year-old model disclosed that she began using the GLP-1 drug Ozempic following the tragic passing of her son, Jack, with husband John Legend in 2020.
“I found myself in a body that felt alien to me, with no joy to be found — only the persistent memory that this very body, which had nurtured a life for 20 weeks, had become merely a … sorrowful echo,” she wrote in an Instagram caption on Thursday, September 18.
“Eating has consistently been a source of pleasure, solace, and difficulty for me,” the culinary writer added, describing the “humiliation, the alleviation, and the strangeness of a diminished appetite” she experienced.
Public Figures Who Have Discussed the Ozempic-Induced Weight Loss Phenomenon
Teigen openly discussed her use of Ozempic — an injectable medication for type 2 diabetes that became widely recognized for its weight reduction effects — with Johann Hari, author of The Magic Pill, during an episode of her “Self-Conscious with Chrissy Teigen” podcast.
“I began with a .5 dose and rapidly increased it to 15, likely within a three-month period,” Teigen revealed during the broadcast.
“Reflecting on photographs, I believe one can develop a kind of Ozempic-induced perception bias, and many experience this upon starting the medication. You shed such a significant amount of weight that the excitement and pride, or whatever emotion it evokes, prevents you from recognizing you’ve lost an excessive amount,” the personality further explained.
She further elaborated on the profound sorrow of her son Jack's passing at “just over 20 weeks” of gestation.
“My physique felt utterly stagnant,” she remarked after her miscarriage. “I truly allowed myself to overeat during my pregnancy. Consequently, after the loss of that baby at 20 weeks, I had likely accumulated an additional 40 pounds that caused me discomfort.”
Upon experiencing the effects of Ozempic, “I felt an improvement in my mental state because I wasn't perpetually immersed in this profound sadness of observing a pregnant abdomen without a child within,” Teigen clarified. “I also felt liberated from the confinement of perceiving food negatively. Wholesome food in an unhealthy light.”
“The impact it had on me, both physically and psychologically, was extraordinary,” she concluded.

Nevertheless, certain drawbacks emerged as she characterized eating while on Ozempic as “akin to force-feeding at times simply to carry out my daily routine and professional duties. And that, for me, is nearly agonizing: having no appetite whatsoever and still ingesting food … I profoundly dislike that.”
Teigen further addressed the “stigma” encountered by numerous public figures who opt for Ozempic, observing the censure they receive for achieving weight loss through what is perceived as the “effortless” method. The mother of four confessed her initial reluctance to disclose her use of the GLP-1 medication, explaining, “I market cookbooks … I consume the food I desire. and I would not be honest.” (Teigen has children Luna, 9, Miles, 7, Esti, 2, and Wren, 2 with Legend).
Teigen and Hari, 46, wrapped up the podcast by discussing self-acceptance and cultivating gratitude for “our physiques” rather than succumbing to internal struggles or focusing on “our flaws.”
