Dax Shepard Clears Up Swinger Rumors, Jokes About Invitations
The speculation surrounding the intimate life of Dax Shepard and his spouse, Kristen Bell, continues to occupy his thoughts.
On the October 20 Monday installment of his “Armchair Expert” podcast, the 50-year-old Shepard addressed the widely circulated internet assertion while chatting about sensational headlines with special guest Jennifer Aniston.
“A gossip publication once reported that Kristen and I were involved in partner-swapping. I suspect that particular detail about us being swingers has faded from public memory,” stated the actor from Zathura, prompting a playful inquiry from Aniston, 56, “You mean that’s false?”
“No, it’s inaccurate. Although, if the suitable individuals were to appear, we might, given the opportune conditions, engage in a frank discussion on the topic,” Shepard quipped.
Kristen Bell: Dax Shepard and I Are Not Actually Swingers
Both Shepard and Bell, 45, have previously spoken out regarding the speculation surrounding their marital status.
In an August 2023 installment of the podcast, the duo revisited the gossip column piece as they talked about peculiar headlines they’d encountered concerning themselves.
“One particular headline claimed we held orgies or hosted swingers’ gatherings,” Shepard recalled then.
Bell disclosed that she had “precise knowledge” of the rumor’s origin.
“It stems from your habit of often making jokes about key parties,” she clarified. “When we host a dinner party or similar event, as we’re settling in, you’ll announce, ‘Everyone, deposit your keys.’”
Shepard confessed to frequently jesting with his podcast guests, only later understanding that they “lack a similar comedic sensibility” to his own.
“I would say things like, ‘So, if you two are ever in Los Angeles and interested in a swing,’” he recounted.
Bell concurred that their brand of humor was often misunderstood by many.
“Plenty of individuals fail to grasp humor,” she proceeded. “This is actually a recent thought of mine, as it’s quite disheartening how everything one utters must be interpreted with such literalism, leaving no space for playful expression or linguistic nuances in storytelling; one must meticulously adhere to facts. It’s simply an uninspired method of conveying information.”
Shepard subsequently resurrected the partner-swapping speculation during a September 2024 guest spot on The Drew Barrymore Show.
“The most thrilling gossip piece suggested we were Tinseltown swingers who organized swing parties,” he mentioned then, further stating that the “most enjoyable aspect” of this rumor was receiving messages from celebrity acquaintances inquiring about these supposed gatherings.

“We received many texts from other friends of ours inquiring, ‘How could you possibly not have extended an invitation to the swinger party?’” he quipped. “Naturally, they were joking, as they are familiar with us and aware that we don’t host such events.”
“It was truly amusing to get a text from [Jimmy] Kimmel stating, ‘I’m rather offended that [Kimmel’s wife] Molly [McNeary] and I didn’t receive an invitation to the swingers party,’” Shepard elaborated.
While Shepard acknowledged the existence of “many attractive couples,” he affirmed that he and Bell have “not ventured into that territory with any individual.”
Shepard and Bell became engaged in 2009, subsequently marrying in 2013. They became parents to daughters Lincoln and Delta in 2013 and 2014, in that order.
