Demi Moore fondly recalls Bruce Willis's playful "Neil Diamond Days"

Demi Moore is reflecting on her marriage to former husband Bruce Willis with fondness.

During a conversation with Kate Hudson at a screening of Song Sung Blue in Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 7, Moore, 63, discussed why the film held significance for her. “This is a somewhat personal memory, but Bruce consistently designated certain days as ‘Neil Diamond Days’,” she revealed. “Watching the movie simply reminded me of times when he would play Neil Diamond’s music all day, and I’d ask, ‘What’s happening?’, and he’d reply, ‘It’s Neil Diamond Day.’”

Moore shares daughters Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 31, with Willis, 70, to whom she was wed from 1987 until 2000.

At the event on Wednesday, Moore reminisced about how Willis “played Neil Diamond’s music throughout the day” for many years, adding, “He was a devoted Neil Diamond fan. And I am too!”

Although their marriage concluded, Moore and Willis have maintained a close relationship over the years. Moore later entered into a marriage with Ashton Kutcher, lasting from 2005 to 2013. Willis, for his part, married Emma Heming Willis in 2009. The couple share two daughters.

“I still cherish Demi. We’re very close. We have three children whom we will continue to raise together, and we’re likely as close now as we ever were,” Willis told Rolling Stone in December 2000. “We recognize our lifelong commitment to our children. Our friendship endures. The formal marriage has been set aside.”

In March 2022, Willis’ family announced his diagnosis of the language disorder aphasia. His condition subsequently progressed to frontotemporal dementia.

“This is a truly challenging time for our family and we are deeply appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support,” read a statement shared in 2023. “We are navigating this as a strong family unit, and wanted to include his fans because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce often says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”

Moore has since offered her support to the Die Hard actor and Heming Willis.

“Being the former spouse, even though our family is very connected, is a unique position,” Moore said during a September 2025 podcast appearance. “So much responsibility fell on Emma to really manage this situation, and the most beautiful aspect was recognizing the importance for caregivers and that they need to prioritize self-care. If they don’t dedicate time to ensuring their own well-being, then they can’t be fully present for others.”

Moore’s focus was on “being present and supportive” for her loved ones. “It’s so vital to simply meet them where they are,” she explained. “Don’t hold a specific expectation that they need to be who they once were or who you desire them to be. When you do that, I find there’s an incredible tenderness and something gentle and loving. Perhaps it’s more playful and childlike in a certain sense because of the increased care they require.”

She continued: “If you anticipate what’s to come, it only generates anxiety. If you dwell on what was and what you’ve lost, it only creates anxiety and grief. There’s still so much of him remaining, it may not always be expressed verbally, but it is beautiful considering the circumstances.”
