Denise Richards Calls Divorce from Aaron Phypers Worse Than Charlie Sheen Split
During recent court proceedings, Denise Richards characterized her separation from her estranged spouse, Aaron Phypers, as a significantly more distressing experience than her past divorce from ex-husband Charlie Sheen, as exclusively revealed by Us Weekly.
On Tuesday, October 7, Richards, aged 54, appeared in court for a second consecutive day, pursuing a permanent protective order against Phypers, 53.
While being cross-examined by Phypers’ legal counsel, the former star of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was presented with a video she had forwarded to Phypers on August 21, several weeks after receiving a temporary protective order against him.
Phypers’ attorney stated the video lasted 11 minutes and 30 seconds; he initially had difficulty playing it in court before it eventually functioned. Richards had dispatched this video to Phypers following his numerous media interviews in which he disparaged her.
The video depicted Richards wearing a yellow baseball cap.
She declared, “I attempted to reach you multiple times.” Richards proceeded, “I possess numerous inquiries for you. I suspect you orchestrated this entire situation.”
Richards mentioned she hadn't viewed any of the interviews herself, but her staff had informed her of their content. She further remarked, “Regardless. Such is life … while my relationship with Charlie [Sheen] was tumultuous, he never resorted to unfair tactics.”
Richards and Sheen, 60, were wed between 2002 and their separation in 2005. Their former union ended in a contentious divorce, finalized the following year in 2006.
The video presented in court showed Richards telling Phypers, “I trusted you and I held affection for you. I genuinely believed you were my soulmate upon our marriage.”

She continued, “Our disputes were incredibly intense, particularly after your family relocated here. I exerted maximum effort. I simply could not endure that situation.”
“I understand your displeasure regarding my application for a restraining order and other matters. You physically assaulted me excessively, and each incident escalated in severity,” she stated further.
“You caused substantial harm. You exhibited manic behavior,” Richards claimed. “You were the singular individual I believed worthy of my trust.”
Richards expressed to Phypers in the recording, “I feel as though I was wed to an individual I never truly understood.”
“Over the past six months, when you failed to defend me. Subsequently, discovering things on your phone confirmed for me… this entire situation was premeditated, and I simply had to accept it. You initiated the [divorce] filing, not me. It was your action.”
Richards characterized Phypers as a “narcissist.”

“I am unfamiliar with you. This is precisely why I'm experiencing such difficulty. Charlie, I am acquainted with. All my other former partners, I understood. I do not know you. This is why this ordeal has been so profoundly challenging. That is the reality I must reconcile myself with. I don't even comprehend who you truly are.”
As Us earlier conveyed, Phypers initiated divorce proceedings on July 7. He cited September 8, 2018, as the marriage date, and July 4, 2025, as the separation date.

On July 16, Richards sought a temporary protective order, asserting that Phypers had demonstrated abusive behavior throughout their marital union.

I have consistently endeavored to approach our matrimony with affection, forbearance, and esteem.
