Denise Richards' Ex Aaron Phypers Arrested for Spousal Abuse Amid Divorce Proceedings
Aaron Phypers, former husband of Denise Richards, has been taken into custody, Us Weekly verifies.
Counsel for Richards informed Us that Phypers faces accusations of “spousal abuse.”
An observer reported to Us on Friday, October 17, that “He was apprehended outside the courthouse and escorted down a close-by escalator. [He] did not return to [the] corridor.” They added, “Denise is present. She appears composed and is conferring with her legal counsel.” Phypers appeared “bewildered,” a sentiment echoed by his lawyer, according to a second onlooker, who observed that the wellness coach “did not seem to grasp that an arrest was imminent.”
As Us had earlier disclosed, Phypers, aged 53, was in court this Friday with Richards, 54, as their divorce proceedings continued. An eyewitness noted that when the hearing resumed post-lunch for Richards’ concluding testimony, about eight law enforcement officers were positioned near the courtroom.
Aaron Phypers, Denise Richards’ Former Spouse, Lodges Police Complaint Against Her
Phypers’ legal representative did not address the apprehension once the court session recommenced. The judicial hearing and temporary restraining order (TRO) have been prolonged until November 7.
Us has attempted to contact Phypers for his statement.
Richards and Phypers exchanged vows in September 2018. Before this year, Phypers initiated divorce proceedings against Richards following six years as a married couple. Shortly after, Richards sought a temporary restraining order, alleging that her separated spouse had displayed abusive behavior during their union.
“Aaron would often violently restrict my breathing, forcefully press my head with both hands, firmly grip my arms, violently strike my face and head, forcefully push my head into the bathroom towel rack, issue death threats, restrain me with his knee on my back to the extent that I would beg him to release me to avoid being killed, and access my laptop and phone to extract all my text communications,” Richards asserted in her legal filing.
Phypers refuted Richards’ claims in a public declaration, stating to Us, “These allegations are entirely unfounded and profoundly damaging. Denise and I, much like numerous other partnerships, have encountered our difficulties, but any insinuation of maltreatment is absolutely false. I have consistently endeavored to conduct our marriage with affection, forbearance, and esteem. I request discretion as we handle private affairs, and I trust that the public and media will abstain from disseminating injurious and groundless assertions.”

Richards and Phypers attended court proceedings several times during October to offer different testimonies concerning supposed occurrences within their marriage. On October 8, Phypers, while under oath, rejected assertions from his cousin, Dr. Kathleen McAllister, who alleged witnessing Phypers strike Richards at his health facility. McAllister maintained that the purported attack resulted in a black eye for Richards.
Phypers declared in court that he did not hit Richards in the eye. He asserted that the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills personality had been consuming alcohol and informed him she collided with a pole.
This Friday, Aaron’s mother, Patricia Phypers, provided testimony claiming she observed a purported altercation between her son and Richards.
Patricia alleged from the witness stand, “It occurred at their Calabasas residence. She tossed a can opener.”
