Diddy's Defense Seeks 14 Months Amidst Claims of "Deplorable" Jail Conditions and Sobriety

Diddy's Defense Seeks 14 Months Amidst Claims of

Legal representatives for Sean “Diddy” Combs are advocating for a reduced penalty, specifically a 14-month incarceration period, following his conviction on two charges related to transporting individuals for prostitution.

According to a sentencing document filed on Monday, September 22, and acquired by Us Weekly, Combs’ attorneys implored Judge Arun Subramanian to impose a 14-month term, succeeded by supervised parole that would include compulsory drug rehabilitation, one-on-one counseling, and group therapy.

His legal counsel stated that “the suggested sentence represents the sole equitable and appropriate punishment for Mr. Combs,” given that the standard sentencing range for “Mr. Combs’s convicted offenses” typically spans from six to 12 months.

The recording artist’s attorneys further asserted that he “has already endured sufficient penalty through 13 months under the deplorable circumstances” at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he has been held since his arrest in September 2024. They contended that these circumstances encompass “continuous suicide monitoring,” involving bi-hourly checks by guards, even during sleep, “restricted availability of potable water,” and “an absence of nutritious, or palatable, sustenance.”

Additionally, the defense team noted that Combs “achieved sobriety for the first time in a quarter-century” and maintains an “unblemished disciplinary record” while incarcerated, possesses no previous criminal convictions, and “has already witnessed how apprehension and conviction can devastate his public image and result in severe secondary repercussions for his enterprises, acknowledging the impact his conduct has had on himself and his loved ones.” The attorneys also mentioned that Combs “supports seven children and an aging mother who depend on him for sustenance and assistance.”

The document filed on Monday was complemented by numerous endorsement letters from Combs’ close family and friends, including his mother, Janice Combs, who pleaded with Judge Subramanian “to show compassion for my son.” Janice, aged 84, conveyed that the previous year “has been agonizingly challenging and distressing for me and his children” throughout Diddy's imprisonment. She further disclosed that her health had declined over the “past two years.” Consequently, “I am uncertain how much more time I have, but I long to see [Diddy] reunited with his children.”

Combs’ sentencing is scheduled for October 3, succeeding his July conviction on two charges connected to prostitution. He was cleared of three additional accusations: two counts of human trafficking and one count of conspiracy to commit racketeering. (Combs entered a plea of not guilty to all accusations made against him and has consistently asserted his blamelessness since his apprehension in September 2024.)

Furthermore, on Thursday, September 25, Judge Subramanian will oversee a proceeding to review Combs’ application for either an acquittal or a retrial, a motion submitted by his legal team in late July.
