Don Cheadle and Bridgid Coulter Share Rare Glimpse of Enduring Love at HollyRod Gala
Don Cheadle is consistently effusive in his praise for his wife, Bridgid Coulter, particularly during significant moments.
Prior to receiving an honor at the HollyRod Foundation’s 2025 DesignCare Gala on Saturday, October 4, the famously private duo offered an uncommon insight into their mutual admiration.
“She exemplifies a wonderful mother, an excellent spouse, and an extraordinary entrepreneur and designer,” Cheadle, 60, revealed exclusively to Us Weekly at NYA EAST in Los Angeles. “She is simply an upstanding individual, and this has been our reality for over three decades.”
The acclaimed actor from Crash and Hotel Rwanda commenced his relationship with Coulter, 57, in 1992. Their marriage ceremony was discreetly held during the coronavirus health crisis in 2021.

Although Coulter acknowledged her husband’s complimentary statements on the red carpet, her response was delivered with a touch more levity.
Upon being questioned about what she values most in Cheadle, Coulter playfully quipped, “He’s attractive. It’s entirely about his appearance, and naturally, he’s exceptionally gifted!”
Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete presented Cheadle and Coulter with the Clarence & Jacqueline Avant Humanitarian Award at their foundation’s yearly celebration. This esteemed recognition is bestowed upon those whose empathy, support, and dedication generate enduring positive change.
While Cheadle holds the position of a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme, Coulter has established empowering environments fostering inclusion, guidance, and innovation for women of color and their supporters through the Blackboard Collective and Blackbird Alliance.
In June 2021, Cheadle initially revealed his marital status during an appearance on an installment of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. During this segment, guest presenter Wanda Sykes expressed regret for being unaware of the actor's marriage until he shared the private information via text.
Cheadle promptly assured the humorist that he bore no ill will.
“Indeed, I mean, that’s perfectly comprehensible, considering we had been a couple for 28 years prior to our wedding,” the Oscar-nominated artist jested. “I absolve you of any responsibility.”
Although the couple — parents to adult children Tai and Imani — endeavors to maintain privacy regarding their relationship, both online and in public, Coulter recognized the significance of being recognized by the Peete family’s philanthropic organization.
“We don't typically make many joint public appearances,” she stated, standing with her spouse. “This instance is solely due to the charitable objective.”

Holly and Rodney’s son, RJ, received an autism diagnosis when he was 3 years old. He is currently 27 and flourishing in his role with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Concurrently, Holly’s father, Matt Robinson, succumbed to Parkinson’s disease in 2002. Holly’s sibling is presently managing early-onset Parkinson’s.
“Our families have maintained a friendship for quite some time, and we are strong advocates for their initiatives,” Cheadle commented regarding Holly and Rodney’s efforts. “Their dedication to their foundation is truly exceptional, representing many years of outstanding contributions. I am pleased to be present to back their cause.”
Coulter further stated, “Their commitment to addressing autism and Parkinson’s is profoundly significant, and we have been acquainted with Matt [Robinson] for a very long time. It is a distinct privilege for us to recognize their efforts here.”
