Ed Sheeran explains how he discovered Taylor Swift's engagement through social media due to his no-phone lifestyle

Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift have at last discussed her engagement to Travis Kelce — with the “Sapphire” artist discovering the news via social media platforms.

“The way I see it is, Taylor and I are friends, and I'll catch up with her,” Sheeran, 34, shared with Access Hollywood on Friday, November 28. “I met up with her about a week after the event … and conversations happen face-to-face.”

Swift, 35, disclosed on Instagram in August that Kelce, 36, proposed after a two-year relationship. Sheeran, who has shared a close friendship with Swift since 2014, subsequently disclosed that he learned of it from social media because he doesn't own a mobile phone.

“I've actually also gotten rid of the iPad, so I'm not using any devices now,” Sheeran stated on Friday regarding his decision to part with both his phone and tablet. “I tend to believe that by staying constantly connected to everyone, you diminish genuine human interaction.”

“When I met Taylor, we had a four-hour long conversation to catch up,” he informed Access. “It's about personal matters rather than, I suppose, you understand? I'm not uneasy about my connection with her. We've maintained our friendship for a great many years [and] we are exceptionally close.”

As per Sheeran, he and the Life of a Showgirl performer “meet whenever the opportunity arises.”

“When we reconnect, it's like picking up right where we paused, and I truly appreciate that,” he stated.

Several months following their get-together, Swift presented her account of the situation on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“I have an ideal reason … he lacks a phone,” Swift mentioned last month. “I was scrolling through my messages, asking myself, ‘Who have I messaged in the past month?’ And his contact simply wasn't present.”

He finished by saying, “I simply believe that technology is dictating people's existences, and I prefer opening a laptop for work, closing it, [and] then returning to my actual life. I have kids, a spouse, a family; I desire to be fully engaged. I don't wish to exist within the online realm around the clock.”
