Elizabeth Olsen Credits Sisters Ashley and Mary-Kate for Her "Strong" Upbringing

Elizabeth Olsen Credits Sisters Ashley and Mary-Kate for Her

Elizabeth Olsen can consistently rely on the unwavering support of her older twin sisters, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen.

"My sisters had to endure countless viewings of my plays and dance recitals throughout my childhood," the 36-year-old Elizabeth quipped to The Times of London in a piece published on Friday, November 28, highlighting her family's steadfast mutual backing. "Our family simply provides strong support for each other."

Elizabeth stated that Ashley and Mary-Kate, both 39, never offered her career guidance in acting. (The twin sisters famously began their journey in entertainment as young children, jointly portraying Michelle Tanner on Full House, subsequently building a media empire before reaching their sixteenth birthdays.)

"Discussing acting feels somewhat beside the point after a decade and a half in the industry," Elizabeth further remarked, informing the publication that her early years were "quite tumultuous."

"As the youngest of four children," the star of Eternity clarified, "all of us were born within a span of five years."

Former spouses Jarnette and David Olsen are parents to James Trent, twin daughters Mary-Kate and Ashley, and Elizabeth. Subsequently, David had two more children with his second wife, McKenzie Olsen.

With Elizabeth pursuing a career in entertainment similar to her sisters, she has openly discussed their close relationship, sharing with Us how they were all nurtured to be "quite confident."

"Women ought to feel more robust in their capabilities now more than ever," Elizabeth stated to Us and other journalists in 2017. "What I've been trying to understand is, at what specific moment did my parents instill in me the sense of being a very capable woman? I'm not entirely sure how that occurred, but I consistently felt like a very self-assured young female, and it's a topic my sisters and I often ponder."

A Glimpse into the Private Lives of the Olsen Twins

She had previously elaborated on why having older twin sisters seemed to be an "asset."

"I consistently perceived having older twin sisters as beneficial," Elizabeth shared with Harper’s Bazaar in 2022. "Their experiences provided a clear framework for how I would approach numerous situations. Additionally, I always felt immensely safeguarded. While there's a unique bond they share as twins that I'll never fully comprehend, I consider myself fortunate to observe it."

While the Olsen family strives for ongoing discretion, Elizabeth's professional trajectory has seen a significant ascent.

"The fanbase is incredibly devoted, and it's fulfilling to portray the same character for a decade, but with Marvel, one can never predict when you'll be called upon for another film," the actress conveyed to The Times regarding her role as Scarlet Witch in the MCU movies and related television shows. "It's essential to pursue your own life and make choices to participate in projects that hold personal significance during those interim periods. I've consistently made an effort to find meaningful work between my Marvel commitments."

Elizabeth recently exchanged her superhero attire for the role of Joan in A24's Eternity, a romantic comedy set in the afterlife where her character faces the dilemma of choosing her eternal partner from two departed spouses.

"This film brought to mind the musical productions my mother introduced me to during my upbringing," Elizabeth reflected to the publication. "She presented me with all the timeless classics — Guys and Dolls, Carousel, Oklahoma! I adored them, and my passion for musicals drove me to enroll in every possible performance class."
