Emma Chamberlain Explains Her Musician Dating Pattern: "They Choose Me"

Emma Chamberlain Explains Her Musician Dating Pattern:

Online personality Emma Chamberlain has offered a clear rationale for her consistent pattern of dating musicians.

“To borrow a line from Sabrina Carpenter, ‘I swear they choose me. I’m not choosing them,’” the 24-year-old Chamberlain revealed during the November 28 installment of the “In Your Dreams” podcast, referring to a lyric from Carpenter’s track “Manchild.” “I have never initiated contact with a musician via direct message — it has always been the music-maker who reached out to me first.”

Chamberlain further asserted that she has never "approached" a man from the music industry in a social setting like a bar.

“I don’t approach anyone in a bar setting, nor do I typically slide into anyone’s DMs,” she explained. “They do seek me out, but I am also genuinely very drawn to individuals in music. … I can’t quite pinpoint why.”

Musical Compositions Inspired by Celebrity Relationship Endings

Chamberlain's first known romantic link was with Role Model (whose birth name is Tucker Pillsbury) in 2022, nearly a year prior to their official announcement as a couple. Chamberlain and Role Model, 28, ended their relationship in 2023, and the following year she began seeing Peter McPoland. Earlier this month, Chamberlain shared on her self-titled podcast that she was once again unattached.

While conversing on Owen Thiele’s podcast, Chamberlain reflected on the beginnings of her two significant relationships.

“The initial instance, it was coincidental that he created music; that occurred during [the] COVID [pandemic],” Chamberlain recounted regarding her relationship with Role Model. “That aspect was irrelevant; I simply didn’t pay it any mind.”

In the years following Chamberlain and Role Model’s separation, he released his album Kansas Anymore in 2024. A number of listeners have since speculated that the album contains multiple allusions to Chamberlain.

“It truly is fascinating. I gained insights into my own relationship through his music,” Chamberlain commented, addressing the fan theories. “I’ve genuinely learned how, perhaps, individuals have perceived me through their art. It’s excellent, yet it also feels somewhat strange when you discern more in the songs than in real-life interactions. It makes you think, ‘Really, that’s how you felt?’”

She elaborated, “People who compose music, that is their artistic medium [and] their means of expression. That is how they convey their emotions [and] their feelings. It makes perfect sense that it would be an almost safer environment than [being] within a relationship to articulate freely.”

Although Chamberlain refrained from explicitly naming Role Model on the podcast, she did acknowledge her effort to “learn from” the musical parallels.

“I’m almost, like, delving into it myself,” she stated, noting her inclination to analyze song lyrics. “I am curious about their genuine sentiments, even when we are in a relationship. It’s like, ‘What do they truly feel?’ It’s beneficial because you acquire additional information, but it is also emotionally volatile. It’s peculiar, yet I find myself drawn to it.”

When Chamberlain began dating McPoland, 25, last year, she was similarly unaware of his involvement in music.

“The second time around, when I first encountered the person, I wasn’t aware they were a musician,” the YouTube sensation shared, hinting at McPoland. “I discovered it later, and my reaction was, like, ‘Oh, so we’re doing this again.’ … It was entirely by chance.”

With her previous relationships now behind her, Chamberlain is focused on her forthcoming phase of life.

“I’ve had a fair number of boyfriends, but my breaks in between have been quite brief, implying I haven’t truly been single. It feels somewhat intimidating to be in this position now, unattached once more,” she confessed on her “Anything Goes” podcast earlier this month. “This time, I recognize I ought to remain single for a considerably longer period than just two or three months. I believe this time I need to be single for, perhaps, a full year.”
