Erika Kirk recounts private grief and defends public statements following Charlie Kirk's assassination.
Erika Kirk (formerly Frantzve) encountered profound difficulty coping with the sudden loss of her husband, Charlie Kirk.
The 37-year-old explained during a town hall broadcast on CBS News on Saturday, December 13, that "For months, I couldn't bring myself to enter my own bedroom," revealing she had instead been sleeping in her 3-year-old daughter's bed. "I'm restless on my phone, and I start drafting [a speech]," she added.
Charlie died at 31 in September after being shot during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University. He is survived by Erika and their two young children.
Days after Charlie's assassination, Erika delivered an intense message to his killer via Fox News, stating in part, "You have no idea what you have just unleashed."

Erika recalled to Bari Weiss on Saturday, "That morning, the team reached out to me and suggested, 'They believe they have apprehended the suspect. You should probably express gratitude to the authorities and make a statement.'" She continued, "I said, 'OK.' I was not afraid."
While Erika claimed her team offered to help her pre-record a video message, she chose to speak live instead.
Erika explained, "I said, 'Absolutely not.' My husband always delivered his messages live. I have nothing to conceal. We believe in complete transparency. What you observe is the truth. If I become emotional on live television, then that is what happens. My husband was assassinated; he didn't pass away in a simple accident."
According to Erika, her personally crafted speech symbolized "a revival that was unleashed."
"That statement was not meant to incite violence. It was meant to help people understand that the Lord is working in ways we cannot comprehend," she clarified. "God will utilize something immensely tragic to awaken people to the realization that 'Our time on Earth is brief.' Charlie only lived for 31 years. Thirty-one years, and therefore, yes, you truly do not know what has been unleashed."

Erika added, "I vow to dedicate every fiber of my being to allowing the Lord to utilize me in ways only He can, bringing honor to Him and to the kingdom. The experience has been incredibly impactful, and this is merely the start."
Erika, having assumed the roles of CEO and chairperson for her late husband's Turning Point USA organization, remains committed to continuing Charlie's work following his passing. She has also been open in discussing their father's absence with her daughter and son.
On Fox News last month, Erika shared, "My daughter frequently asks about his whereabouts, but it's very poignant because I always provide her with certain explanations." She elaborated, "I told her, 'If you ever wish to speak with Daddy, simply gaze at the sky and begin talking to him—he can listen to you.'"

Following this, Erika mentioned that she informed her children that "Daddy resides in heaven."
At that time, Erika emotionally recounted, "I told her, 'Daddy is in heaven.' She responded, 'Do you think I'll get to visit sometime?'" Erika replied, "'Darling, we will all arrive there eventually.'"
During a subsequent interview with the same outlet, Erika revealed that her daughter frequently asks questions about heaven.
Speaking to Sean Hannity on Monday, December 8, she said, "My daughter and I discuss this topic every night. She asks, 'What do you imagine Daddy did in heaven today?' and I encourage her to share her ideas with me. We've reached an understanding—and I've worked to explain this to her—that Daddy remains present with us, although he is in a different place, where he is preparing a home for us in heaven."
