Erika Kirk, the bereaved wife of the late conservative advocate Charlie Kirk, has candidly discussed the poignant moment she viewed her husband’s body after his fatal shooting.
“His gaze was partially unfocused,” the 36-year-old Erika revealed to The New York Times in a Sunday, September 21, interview—her initial public statement since her husband, then 31, was fatally gunned down on September 10 during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University.
“And he bore this knowing, almost Mona Lisa-like, faint smile,” Erika continued. "As if he found contentment in his passing. As if he was divinely rescued. The bullet arrived, he blinked, and he ascended to heaven.”
Erika disclosed to the publication that she had originally planned to accompany her husband to Utah for what was the inaugural stop of his national tour, but she remained in Arizona to support her mother, who was undergoing medical treatment in a Phoenix hospital. She was by her mother’s bedside when she received an urgent call from her husband’s assistant, Michael McCoy, who cried out, “He’s been shot!”

Despite pronouncements from numerous prominent political figures, including the nation’s president, authorities have discovered “no evidence connecting the suspect with any left-wing organizations.”
