Erin Bates Fights Septic Shock After Welcoming Seventh Child

Understanding Septic Shock
As per Cleveland Clinic, septic shock represents the final and most critical phase of sepsis, a condition that develops “when your immune system exhibits an intense response to an infection.” This widespread bodily inflammation “can lead to dangerously reduced blood pressure.”
Initial signs of sepsis can include “a rapid heart rate, elevated or abnormally low body temperature (hypothermia), tremors or shivers, skin that feels warm, damp, or sweaty, mental confusion or disorientation, rapid breathing (hyperventilation), and difficulty breathing.” Sepsis can progress to a severe form, eventually leading to septic shock. Manifestations of septic shock involve “extremely low blood pressure, dizziness, minimal or absent urine production, heart flutters, cold and pale extremities, and skin rashes.”

“She remains in the ICU at present, with medical professionals actively treating, diagnosing, and seeking solutions. We earnestly request your prayers for this wonderful woman, who shines so brightly in a challenging world. We are clinging to the assurances of God,” he finished.
Erin Bates Experienced a ‘Serious Seizure’ During Her Convalescence
In a subsequent update on September 4, 2025, Paine disclosed that Bates had encountered a regression in her healing process.
“I feel a multitude of emotions as I communicate this. Yesterday evening, Erin experienced a prolonged and intense seizure. Prior to this, Erin’s infection was improving, but we have now returned to a state of grief, doubt, and sorrow,” he penned.
Paine further stated that Bates is currently “in the ICU” while physicians are conducting “scans and examinations to ascertain the root cause” of her condition.
“Erin is profoundly weak and spent many hours in a semi-conscious state. As her spouse, witnessing her struggle by her bedside, utterly powerless to alleviate her pain, is among the most challenging experiences I’ve ever confronted. My love for her transcends words, and I cannot fathom existence without my closest companion,” he proceeded. “The time has been arduous and somber, and I know numerous hearts, including mine, are pained to see her in this state. We maintain our belief that recovery is approaching, even amidst this uncertainty. Your prayers are truly felt, and our gratitude is unending.”

Approximately two weeks subsequent to the birth of her son Henry, Bates showed signs of improvement following her hospitalization due to septic shock.
“With tears in our eyes, we are giving thanks to the Lord that we are now progressing towards recovery,” Bates and Paine communicated through a shared Instagram post on September 6. “Your prayers have undeniably reached heaven.”
Accompanying their message, the couple shared a video depicting Bates embracing her infant son in her hospital bed.
