Erin Bates Returns Home After Severe Health Crisis Following Birth of Seventh Child

Bringing Up Bates star Erin Bates is returning home after a severe health crisis involving septic shock, which occurred after she welcomed her seventh child with Chad Paine.

Her husband shared on Instagram on Saturday, September 13, that "After spending nearly three weeks in the hospital, I'm incredibly grateful to finally be returning home to our children," alongside images of the new mother departing the facility with their infant. He continued, "While we still lack complete answers and my right leg remains impaired, we're focusing on every positive aspect—especially the joy of reuniting as a family. Your continuous prayers have been our strength and mean everything to us."

Erin, who is among Kelly Jo and Gil Bates' nineteen children, and Paine celebrated the arrival of their son Henry on August 25.

An August 27 Instagram post announced, "Following an extended and trying labor, our little miracle has arrived. … Henry is thriving, but we would deeply value your prayers for Erin as she navigates her recovery from certain complications." The statement concluded, "We are grateful to the Lord for guiding us and for the blessing of this treasured son."

Several days subsequent, Paine provided an encouraging update on the infant's condition, yet disclosed that Erin was still hospitalized. In an Instagram message, he penned, "We wished to express our gratitude to each and every one of you for the prayers and support extended to us. It has been one week since our miracle, Henry came into the world. He is progressing well in the NICU and is a source of immense joy for us."

Paine's communication was paired with a pair of monochrome images showing Erin in a hospital bed. He further stated, "We had requested prayers for Erin's recovery following complications. Her labor was more protracted and demanding than her prior experiences. She has been persevering through this and has served as a beacon of light and a gentle example of composure to the nurses, staff, and doctors. Her grace and appreciation amidst suffering have touched us all," he elaborated.

Paine disclosed that his spouse "contracted a serious UTI and kidney infection," leading to septic shock. He concluded, "She remains in the ICU while medical professionals persist in providing treatment, making diagnoses, and seeking explanations. We would highly value your prayers for this remarkable woman who brings so much positivity to a challenging world. We are relying on divine assurances."

With supporters and relatives offering their well wishes and prayers, Paine gave a more detailed account of Erin's state on September 4. "I am overwhelmed with mixed feelings as I convey this news," he posted on Instagram. "Last night, Erin experienced a prolonged and intense seizure. Prior to this, Erin's infection had been improving, but we are now back in a situation filled with sorrow, doubt, and tears. She is in the ICU, and medical teams are conducting scans and tests to identify the root cause. Erin is incredibly fragile and spent many hours in a semi-conscious state."

Paine further stated that witnessing Erin "contend" with her illness was "among the most challenging experiences" he has faced. He wrote, "My love for her transcends words, and I cannot envision a life without my dearest companion. The passage of time has been arduous and somber, and I know many hearts share my pain in seeing her in this condition. We maintain our belief that recovery will come, even amidst uncertainty. Your prayers are felt, and we are eternally thankful."

The Full Chronology of Erin Bates and Husband Chad Paine’s Relationship

Erin and her spouse exchanged vows in 2013. In addition to Henry, their children include Carson (born in 2015), Brooklyn (born in 2016), Everly (born in 2018), Holland (born in 2019), Finley (born in 2022), and William (born in 2023).

The former reality television personality endured several miscarriages on her journey to parenthood. She confided to People in 2015, "Enduring a miscarriage is profoundly difficult. You develop so many hopes, you get ready, you have a specific date envisioned, and it's utterly devastating when that comes to an end. It feels as though your entire world has collapsed."

At that period, Erin remarked that overcoming adversity strengthened her bond with Paine. She stated, "When you encounter a challenging experience, it only makes you more resilient and compels you to seek solace in each other. It also led us to connect with others who had faced similar tough circumstances, and hopefully, to offer them encouragement through their struggles."

Viewers were introduced to Erin and her family through the UPtv program Bringing Up Bates, which was broadcast between 2015 and 2021.
