Fergie Addresses Epstein Emails Amidst Past "Massive Lapse in Judgment"
Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has commented on the emails exchanged between her and the deceased financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Recently, a 2011 email from Ferguson, age 65, to Epstein was brought back into public view by various U.K. media sources. A representative for the Duchess of York stated to the Daily Mail on Sunday, September 21, that the message was "dispatched to counteract a forceful warning Epstein issued, threatening legal action against her for slander."
In a distinct declaration provided to the BBC, the representative highlighted, "The duchess expressed remorse regarding her connection with Epstein a long time ago, and her primary concern, as ever, remains with his victims. Similar to numerous individuals, she was deceived by his falsehoods. The moment she grasped the full scope of the accusations leveled against him, she immediately ceased all communication and openly denounced him, which led to him subsequently threatening to sue her for libel for linking him to pedophilia."
The communication finished by stating: "She stands by all her previous comments. This particular email was dispatched based on counsel the Duchess received, aimed at pacifying Epstein and his aggressive warnings."
Prince Andrew's Alleged Emails to Jeffrey Epstein: 'We'll Play Some More'
Reports indicate that Ferguson described Epstein as a "supreme friend" within the email and disavowed calling him "the P word" (pedophile) during a March 2011 interview – an interview released mere weeks prior to her email being dispatched.
“I understand you feel intensely disappointed by me, and I sincerely offer my apologies to you and your sentiments for that,” Ferguson’s message to Epstein reportedly stated. “I am apologizing to you now for my failure to respond to your email or contact you. I was confined to bed by fear. I felt utterly incapacitated.”
The correspondence went on, “I was explicitly told, in no uncertain terms, to avoid any association with you and to refrain from speaking with or emailing you.”
Ferguson asserted her desire not to “create further difficulties” for her former spouse, Prince Andrew. (The Duke of York lost his royal designation after his supposed connections with Epstein came to light. He faced a lawsuit from the late Virginia Giuffre concerning sexual abuse in 2021. They reached a settlement the subsequent year, and he maintains his denial of her accusations.)

During her interview in March 2011, Ferguson conceded that her association, however minor, with Epstein constituted a "massive lapse in judgment.”
"I detest pedophilia and all forms of child sexual abuse,” she further stated then. "I cannot emphasize enough my understanding that a profound, profound error in judgment occurred by my having any involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. His actions were reprehensible, and he was justly incarcerated for them."
Epstein was apprehended on federal indictments in 2019 for the trafficking of underage individuals for sexual exploitation in both Florida and New York. He passed away at 66 years old due to suicide while incarcerated at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York.
