First Wives Club Where Are They Now

The film The First Wives Club united three formidable comedic talents in a memorable narrative exploring themes of camaraderie, romance, and self-discovery.

Released in 1996, the movie featured Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton portraying three companions grieving the passing of their friend Cynthia (played by Stockard Channing), whose death by suicide followed her former spouse's marriage to a significantly younger woman.

Furthermore, Maggie Smith, Sarah Jessica Parker, Victor Garber, Elizabeth Berkley, Stephen Collins, and Marcia Gay Harden had supporting parts. Over two decades following the movie's debut, Hawn hinted at ongoing discussions for a follow-up film.

“The screenplay requires approval, and they have just provided us with a new version, which I need to review,” she shared with Entertainment Tonight in November 2020. “Therefore, we are slowly progressing towards it, one might say.”

Midler further elaborated, “I truly perceived it as a significant slight, since female-led successes are often dismissed as chance occurrences. However, when male-led projects succeed, it's celebrated, isn't it? At least, that was the message conveyed to us regarding First Wives.”
