Following overdose reports, Andy Dick decides to enter rehabilitation facility.

Andy Dick has made the decision to enter a rehabilitation facility following reports of an apparent overdose incident.

On Friday, December 12, the 59-year-old actor informed TMZ that he plans to check into a rehab center located close to Palm Springs, California. The comedian revealed that his acquaintance Jenny Gimenez, who was featured alongside him on Celebrity Rehab, intervened and assisted him in making the choice to pursue treatment.

“Jenny Gimenez is like family; she saved me along with Tim [Ryan],” he stated to the publication, mentioning Gimenez’s spouse.

Gimenez and Ryan, both of whom maintain sobriety, informed TMZ that they successfully secured a “full-ride scholarship offer” for Dick to attend the facility.

Us Weekly attempted to contact Dick for further statements.

Earlier in the week, numerous news sources indicated that Dick received the life-saving drug Narcan following an alleged overdose incident. The entertainer responded to these reports on Wednesday, December 10.

“I don’t mind indulging in crack occasionally,” Dick told TMZ previously, asserting that he felt “completely fine.”

The next day, Dick indicated that he had no intention of entering treatment.

“When you suggest professional help, should I reach out to Dr. Drew again? Do I require assistance? Does everyone require assistance?” Dick asked in footage acquired by TMZ on Thursday, December 11. “I am currently with my two friends, and it would be challenging for me to get away from them.”

Upon being questioned about considering rehab, Dick emphatically refused, stating, “Absolutely not. No, I am not going.”

Throughout his career, Dick has openly dealt with substance abuse challenges. He has previously spoken honestly about his struggles and attempts at recovery.

“I needed to quit drinking, or my life was in danger,” Dick recounted to Vice in 2016, explaining his decision to enter rehab initially in 2014. “It was very clear to me. I was experiencing severe physical complications. I was going to die. I often claimed that I didn't have issues with drugs and alcohol, but I would consume them when I was joyful, when I was down, or when I felt stressed. Without drugs or alcohol, I felt low, defeated, and upset.”

Dick additionally discussed the difficulties he faced in locating a recovery program willing to accept him.

“When I contacted certain recovery centers, they would terminate the call once they realized who I was,” he recalled. ”Nobody wanted to provide assistance because I was perceived as beyond help. Why would they admit me only for me to pass away in their care?”

Following that period, Dick reached a milestone of 15 months sober.

“I am one of those individuals requiring ‘special care.’ Honestly, most people had given up on me, and justifiably so. I was slowly deteriorating, and I was frighteningly at peace with it,” Dick posted on Facebook previously. “I accepted that I would die soon regardless. That was 15 and a half months ago. Today, I can declare that Soba [Recovery Center] restored my life and my connections with my family. We are all doing well and embracing life and one another!”
