Former UK Cheerleader Charged in Infant Death Investigation

Information has surfaced regarding the inquiry into the passing of former University of Kentucky competitive cheerleader Laken Snelling.

Snelling, at 21 years old, faced arrest on August 30th, facing accusations of desecrating a corpse, interfering with evidence, and hiding an infant's birth.

In a conversation with law enforcement, Snelling “confessed to delivering a baby” and to “covering up the birth by removing all traces, putting all used cleaning materials into a black refuse bag, along with the baby, who was swaddled in a towel.”

As per an incident report acquired by Lexington's Fox 56, the individual who contacted emergency services stated that the deceased baby felt “cold when touched.”

Laken Snelling, the Cheerleader, Was Absent When Officers Discovered the Deceased Infant

“The caller just located a deceased infant in a wardrobe,” the dispatcher communicated, as noted in the report.

The identity and contact number of the person who called were withheld from the document.

Posed with the question of estimating the infant's time of death upon the arrival of officials, FOX 56’s Lead Medical Expert, Dr. Ryan Stanton, responded, “Probably, at minimum, several hours.”

The official report mentioned that cardiopulmonary resuscitation was not performed on the baby, which Stanton explained signified “clear indicators of demise.”

Based on the report, the fire brigade reached Snelling's residence within a minute of the emergency call. Law enforcement arrived approximately seven minutes afterward.

“The fire department dispatches what is necessary, deploying resources as needed and then releasing what isn't,” clarified FOX 56 News Crime and Safety Expert Don Evans. “This is typical procedure. For law enforcement, it operates somewhat differently. When police are dealing with a crime scene, multiple officers are required for setup; they might need to cordon off a street. They may establish a perimeter; they might also conduct a neighborhood inquiry.”

The baby’s cause of death was determined to be undetermined, as per a coroner’s document secured by Us Weekly on September 4th.

Prosecutor Claims Laken Snelling Is Facing Judgment Lacking Any ‘Verifiable Information’

Snelling, who was previously a cheerleader for the University of Kentucky STUNT squad, has entered a not guilty plea for all accusations.

She was granted release on a $100,000 bail and is presently under “house arrest without an electronic monitor” at her parents' home in Tennessee.

A representative for the University of Kentucky verified to Us on Friday, September 6th, that Snelling is no longer a student at the institution or a member of the STUNT team.

Snelling’s initial court appearance is set for September 26th.
