Friends Cast Launches Charity Art Collection to Support Matthew Perry Foundation
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer have joined forces with the foundation established in honor of their late Friends costar, Matthew Perry, to raise money for charitable causes.
“Exciting news! The cast has collaborated with @soundwaves_art and artist Tim Wakefield to launch a unique collection of artwork this holiday season,” the Matthew Perry foundation announced on Instagram on Thursday, December 11. “Tim has converted the actual soundwaves from the Friends theme song into stunning designs, each inspired by a different character, and every cast member has autographed a limited number of these prints.”
Each abstract piece of art bears the name of the corresponding actor's famous Friends character. The social media post included pictures of Aniston, 56, Cox, 61, Kudrow, 62, LeBlanc, 58, and Schwimmer, 59, signing the artwork named after their roles. The charitable organization additionally mentioned that certain portraits would also bear Perry’s signature.
“And in collaboration with the estate of @mattyperry4, we have produced a very limited edition of artworks embossed with Matthew’s official signature,” the post continued. “All profits will be supporting charities chosen by the cast, including the @MatthewPerryFoundation and its efforts to help individuals struggling with the disease of addiction.”
The ‘Friends’ Cast’s Tributes to Matthew Perry Following His Passing
The artwork is available for purchase on the Sound Waves Art Foundation's website.
Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, and Schwimmer starred alongside Perry on Friends for 10 seasons, running from 1994 to 2004. After the show concluded, the costars maintained a close relationship.
Perry passed away in October 2023 due to an accidental overdose. The autopsy report revealed that the actor's passing resulted from the “acute effects of ketamine.”
“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just castmates. We are a family,” the Friends cast said in a joint statement to Us Weekly at the time. “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. We will share more thoughts in due course, when we are able. Currently, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
Before his passing, Perry spoke openly about his battles with addiction and substance abuse. To honor the late actor, Perry's loved ones established the foundation to support others struggling with addiction.
Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, and Schwimmer attended Perry’s memorial service in Los Angeles, joining his family and close friends.
Jennifer Aniston Discusses Potential Future of 'Friends' Reunion Following Matthew Perry's Death
Earlier this year, Aniston commented that another Friends reunion would be inconceivable for the cast now that Perry has passed away. (The cast gathered in 2021 for the HBO Max special Friends: The Reunion, where they revisited the original set and reflected on the show's production. This marked Perry’s final television appearance.)
“It would truly be physically impossible,” she stated regarding the cast attempting a potential Friends revival or remake without Perry, during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in October.
Aniston further expressed that collaborating with her fellow actors created a sense of magic.
“The chemistry among the cast members resulted in a unique, once-in-a-lifetime occurrence,” she reflected. “And we just happened to capture that on film.”
