From Equestrian to Filmmaker: Inside Rosalind Ross's Life After Mel Gibson

Rosalind Ross and Mel Gibson were a couple for nearly a decade before they decided to go their separate ways.

The pair began dating in 2014 after being introduced by mutual acquaintances. Three years later, Gibson and Ross welcomed their first child together, son Lars. (The Academy Award winner also has seven children: Hannah, Edward, Christian, William, Louis, Milo and Thomas with his former wife Robyn Moore, as well as daughter Lucia with ex Oksana Grigorieva.)

News emerged in December 2025 that Gibson and Ross had ended their relationship after almost ten years of dating.

“Although it’s difficult to conclude this chapter in our lives, we are fortunate to have a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents we can be,” the former couple stated in a joint announcement obtained by People.

Rosalind Ross Shares Son Lars With Mel Gibson

Rosalind Ross and Mel Gibson welcomed their first child together in 2017, just days before the actor received his nomination for Best Director at the Academy Awards for his film Hacksaw Ridge.

Rosalind Ross Practices Jujitsu

Rosalind Ross has been a dedicated practitioner of jujitsu for several years. In a November 2025 interview with Times Square Chronicles, Ross revealed she began the self-defense sport after a break-in at her home.

“I quickly grew to love the way jujitsu made me feel — calm and confident,” she told the outlet. “It’s helped me manage anxiety and taught me that there are always multiple solutions to any challenging situation. That’s something I’ve been able to apply directly to filmmaking.”

Ross added that the training has helped her translate aspects into her film career and motherhood.

“I’ve always had an ambitious (some say unrealistic) belief in what I can handle,” she continued. “There is certainly overlap in the discipline required of filmmaking, jujitsu, and motherhood. Each presents an opportunity to reveal the best or the worst in your character. They are each reflections of what you invest in them — heart, humility, consistency and patience.”
