From Screen to Split: Sarah Shahi and Adam Demos' Whirlwind Romance
Sarah Shahi and her partner, Adam Demos, developed feelings for each other after connecting on the set of Netflix’s Sex/Life — and their romance mirrored the show’s intensity before their separation.
The pair filmed the series together in the autumn of 2020 in Canada, portraying passionate ex-lovers entangled in a complicated romantic situation. In the series, Shahi’s character, Billie, is married to Cooper (Mike Vogel) but desires a return to her more adventurous past when she had a connection with Demos’ Brad.
Away from the cameras, Shahi was navigating a divorce when the provocative role entered her life — and she wasn’t necessarily looking for a new relationship. Us Weekly exclusively reported in June 2020 that Shahi and Steve Howey had decided to separate eight weeks earlier after eleven years together. The former couple, who share three children, son William and twins Violet and Knox, officially ended their marriage in January 2021.
Shahi finished filming Sex/Life just one month before her divorce was finalized. At that time, she shared how much her life had transformed in recent months.
“And that’s a wrap on Billie Mann. @sexlife. My alternate personality,” she wrote alongside a collection of images of her on-screen persona in December 2020. “The intricate, intensely complex, whirlwind of a character I was fortunate to embody. The virtuous and the flawed intertwined in a chaotic pink ribbon.”
She continued: “This project was more than just another job. It altered the course of my life. It unlocked aspects of my heart I had kept concealed for a long time. It assisted me in discovering my authenticity. I was shattered open. Ultimately.”
When celebrating her birthday in January 2021, Shahi once again reflected on her good fortune, mentioning that her relationship with Demos was one of the many “blessings” she’s received as she’s matured.
Shahi confirmed to Us in January 2026 that she and Demos previously ended their relationship after five years of dating.
