Gayle King Debunks AI-Generated Engagement Rumors
Gayle King, an anchor on CBS Mornings, has clarified speculations concerning a recent secret engagement or marriage.
During the news broadcast on Friday, October 31, the 70-year-old King stated, “I’ve been receiving numerous texts, messages, and online reports suggesting I’ve become engaged. Observe me here with a prominent ring on my finger. Apparently, there’s a fortunate individual involved — though I have no knowledge of his identity.”
Numerous pictures depicting King sporting a diamond ring on her ring finger recently spread across social media platforms, but the renowned television personality clarified that these visuals are not authentic.
King elaborated, “These artificial intelligence-created photos have been widely distributed online. Therefore, I am here to declare, solely on CBS Mornings, that I am neither married nor even engaged.”
Melinda Gates is not engaged and is no longer dating Jon Du Pre, contrary to circulating reports.
Even some of King’s acquaintances were deceived by the images, leading them to send her various congratulatory notes regarding her supposed wedding plans.
She humorously remarked, “Individuals have been expressing sentiments like, ‘Congratulations,’ ‘True love has found you,’ and ‘I’m so pleased for you.’ However, that person isn’t me. I even examined the picture myself and wondered, ‘Could that possibly be me?’”
Additionally, one of the fabricated AI narratives asserted that King had entered a romantic relationship with a well-known entrepreneur.
On Friday, she playfully challenged, reading from the story, “Where is this man? I wish to meet you, sir! Reveal yourself! The report stated, ‘Recognized for his charitable contributions and his discreet way of life, this discovery adds a fresh dimension of mystery to the narrative, prompting curiosity about the identity of this fortunate companion.’ He must be incredibly lucky, as even my children asked, ‘Mom, who is this person?’ Frankly, I haven’t the slightest clue!”
King additionally emphasized her continued single status, indicating that any suitable single men still have an opportunity to pursue her affection.
Cohost Nate Burleson chimed in, “To all the gentlemen viewing, feel free to make your move. She remains unattached.”
In another celebrity romance note, Joe Buck of ESPN described having to persistently pursue his wife to persuade her to date him.
King had been married once before to lawyer William Bumpus, a union that lasted from 1982 to 1993 and produced two children.
Discussing her divorce on a 2024 installment of “The Pivot” podcast, King recalled, “My children were 4 and 5 years old then. I’ve never been one to wallow in self-pity. My philosophy is that you're allowed a short time to grieve when unfortunate events occur, but afterward, you must proceed. When circumstances unfold unfavorably, I simply focus on resolving the situation immediately.”
Following the dissolution of King and Bumpus’ marriage, she almost relocated to Chicago for a new career opportunity.
She recounted, “I considered, ‘This is an incredible chance.’ I was prepared to pack up the children and move, yet my former husband strongly objected. Despite my desire for that position, it was crucial to me that my children maintained a strong bond with their father. While I don’t believe he was an ideal spouse, I felt it was vital for them to share a connection with their dad.”
King also mentioned that Bumpus wished to remain an active participant in their children’s upbringing.
King clarified, “When a conflict arises, one must weigh what holds the highest priority. Your level of achievement is irrelevant if your children are not content, well, and well-adjusted. All this accomplishment becomes meaningless, which is why I desired for them to cultivate a relationship with their former stepfather.”
