Handsome Devil: Charming Killer investigates how Wade Wilson earned the "Deadpool Killer" moniker and became an internet obsession.
Wade Wilson, recognized by the moniker “Deadpool Killer,” was convicted for the 2019 murders of Kristine Melton and Diane Ruiz. Six years following his crimes, his case will be examined in Paramount+’s new true crime documentary Handsome Devil: Charming Killer.
This overview summarizes the key aspects of the case and provides details on the upcoming documentary.
Examining Wade Wilson's Background and Crimes
Wilson is a convicted murderer responsible for killing two women in Cape Coral, Florida.
According to A&E, his first murder occurred on October 7, 2019. During an evening at a local bar, Wilson and Melton connected before returning to a friend's residence with their group. Wilson and Melton were intimate; however, their night took a gruesome turn when Wilson strangled Melton in her bed, subsequently stealing her car and fleeing the scene.
That same morning, Wilson violently assaulted his girlfriend at the time, Mila Montanez, at her place of work. His attacks continued when he encountered Ruiz walking to her nearby job and asked for directions. He managed to lure her into his vehicle, where he strangled her. Wilson initially believed she was deceased and planned to bury her body, but upon realizing she was still breathing, he ran over her repeatedly with Melton’s car.

Wilson confessed to his actions during several phone calls with his biological father, Steven Testasecca. After Wilson provided graphic details of the crimes, Testasecca contacted law enforcement, leading to Wilson's arrest later that evening.
While in police custody, Wilson showed no signs of remorse and told authorities he would commit the crimes “again.”
Before his case proceeded to trial in 2024, Wilson significantly altered his appearance by getting tattoos on his face and neck. As a result of this new look attracting widespread attention on social media, public interest in the case grew, and the media labeled him the “Deadpool Killer” due to his shared name with the Marvel character.
During the June 2024 trial, Wilson was found guilty on six charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, grand theft, burglary, and battery, according to A&E. He was later sentenced to death during an August 2024 hearing.
