Harry Seeks Reconciliation Not Royal Return
Prince Harry is not intending to resume his duties as a full-time royal.
According to Us Weekly, the 41-year-old Harry finds contentment in his California lifestyle with his spouse, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He has no intention of moving back to the United Kingdom for any royal capacity, full or part-time, but rather seeks to mend fences with his relatives.
On Monday, September 21, the Daily Mail stated that Harry would “never” be permitted to rejoin the monarchy in a hybrid official role. However, Us sources indicate this assertion does not accurately reflect the Duke of Sussex’s true intentions.
Speculation concerning Harry’s position within his family follows his recent trip back to the United Kingdom, during which he had a private tea with his father, King Charles III. This marked their initial in-person meeting in almost two years.
Meghan Markle Celebrates Prince Harry's Homecoming Following King Charles Meeting
The duke was glad to visit the 76-year-old Charles earlier in September. Harry had previously spoken about fostering a closer relationship with Charles in a recent conversation with The Guardian.
“My father truly needs to be the priority,” he commented then, affirming his willingness to bring 6-year-old Archie and 4-year-old Lilibet to his native land. “This past week has certainly advanced that prospect.”
Earlier this year, Harry had rejected the idea of traveling to the U.K. with his children after his request for state-sponsored protection was denied. (In 2020, Harry and Meghan, 43, made the choice to move from the U.K. to the United States permanently.)
“I believe segments of the British media wish to portray me as unhappy, but that’s not the truth,” Harry also conveyed to The Guardian. “I am entirely content with myself, and I enjoy the life I lead.”
Prince Harry Reportedly Hasn't 'Lost Hope' of Relocating Family to UK
Earlier in September, Us Weekly verified that the father-son encounter “originated from a personal letter Harry sent to Charles earlier this year, conveying his wish to mend their relationship.” (Harry also publicly discussed his hope for family reconciliation in a significant BBC interview last May.)
An insider informed Us that the meeting between Harry and Charles involved “embraces and weeping.” They were “privately discussing the children and updates on Charles’s well-being.” (In February 2024, Charles received a diagnosis for an unspecified form of cancer.)
“Upon their initial sighting, they embraced for an extended period,” the same source recounted to Us. “Harry began to weep, and it was a deeply moving moment for both. They genuinely yearned for each other’s presence.”
