HGTV Viewers Mourn the Loss of Beloved Personalities Over the Years
HGTV viewers have recently had to mourn the deaths of several talented personalities.
Over the past few years, audiences of House Hunters were saddened by the death of Suzanne Whang following her battle with breast cancer.
Other fans of the network might recall Carol Duvall, who hosted The Carol Duvall Show for almost a decade. Her death was confirmed by her family in July 2023 at 97 years old.
In December 2025, reports emerged that Holmes on Homes personality Frank Cozzolino passed away following a lymphoma diagnosis.

“My father was cherished by numerous people,” Frank’s daughter, Filomena Cozzolino, stated on Instagram following his death. “He possessed immense passion, empathy, and uncompromising honesty and integrity.”

Frank Cozzolino
Holmes on Homes personality Frank Cozzolino passed away in December 2025 at age 56, having fought lymphoma, a form of blood cancer affecting the lymphatic system, as confirmed by his daughter.
Cozzolino worked alongside Mike Holmes on the HGTV show Holmes on Homes, where their goal was to refurbish badly built homes.
“Frank improved us all. His legacy will endure in every property he contributed to,” Holmes posted on Instagram when his friend died. “Frank had a unique ability to enter the most challenging electrical mess, tell a joke in his distinctive way, and instantly, the atmosphere brightened. That defines who he was. Frank excelled at his craft and genuinely invested himself in it.”
Loren Ruch
Loren Ruch, cohost of HGTV House Party, passed away in June 2025 from acute myeloid leukemia at age 55.
Ruch had worked at HGTV as a senior programming executive since 2008, overseeing productions such as HGTV Dream Home, White House Christmas, and A Very Brady Renovation.
“Rest in peace, my friend,” Bobby Berk wrote in an Instagram tribute. “You were consistently a source of warmth in a challenging world and will be deeply missed by countless individuals.”
Carol Duvall
The host of The Carol Duvall Show, Carol Duvall, passed away in July 2023 at 97 years old, as verified by her family to The New York Times.
Through her national broadcasts on ABC and HGTV, Duvall inspired audiences to create items like picture frames, greeting cards, placemats, jewelry, Christmas ornaments, and other crafts.
Suzanne Whang
Suzanne Whang, known as the host of House Hunters, passed away in September 2019 after a fight with breast cancer. She was 56.
“Suzanne took her final breath at home, while I was kneeling next to her, holding her hand,” her partner, Jeff Vezain, stated in a message published by People. “A lifetime of affection, experiences, humor, and joy now resides in our recollections. … She derived great comfort from the support of her family, friends, and even strangers.”
Frank Miller
In November 2017, Flip or Flop personalities Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack expressed sorrow over the passing of their friend and contractor Frank Miller, following a diagnosis of Laryngeal cancer.
“You influenced not only my family and me but also thousands of people worldwide,” El Moussa posted on Instagram when Miller died. “You made a difference in so many lives through the fighting spirit in your heart and soul. I have never encountered anyone like you and never will again.”
Haack commented, “Frank, from our first meeting, I held immense respect for you. Dedicated and GENUINE. Always enjoyable to be around and constantly bringing me laughter. You gave everything you had in the fight! You are deeply respected and admired by everyone who knew you. God has a reserved spot for you in Heaven. Love and miss you #RIP.”

Television personality Chris Hyndman passed away in August 2015 at 49 years old. His mother, Glenda Hyndman, informed the Toronto Star that her son was prone to sleepwalking and his death resulted from “a tragic accident.”
Hyndman and Steven Sabados formed a Canadian design and lifestyle partnership recognized for HGTV programs including Designer Guys, Design Rivals, and So Chic.
